Indian premier league, the biggest T20 extravaganza consists of franchise teams belonging to different cities. It was initiated by Board of Cricket Control of India under the chairmanship of Lalit Modi in the year 2008. Vivo Electronics was declared the official sponsor of the tournament and it was known as the Vivo Indian premier league.
IPL History
Auction was conducted on 24th January 2008 with the base price of the 400 million dollars. Initially, 8 teams were finalized as they were sold in excess of 700 million dollars. In the year 2010, two new franchises in the form of Pune warriors and Kochi tuskers were added to the mix. Sahara group purchased Pune for 370 million and Kochi was auctioned for about 333.33 million dollars. Deccan chargers in the year 2012 were transformed in to Sunrisers Hyderabad as the bidding war for the new team was won by Sun TV.
In the tournament eight teams play with each other at home and away grounds in a round robin league fashion. Top 4 teams proceed to the next round where the top 2 play against each other. Winner moves into the finals while the loser has to play with the winners between the third and fourth teams. After the exit of the Pune and Tuskers, two new franchises namely Pune and Rajkot have been added. The former would be headed by Dhoni will the latter by Suresh Raina.
IPL T20 Winners
In the year 2008, Rajasthan royals won by 3 wickets when they overhauled the score set by Chennai super kings.
The year 2009 saw IPL shifted to South Africa and Deccan chargers under the captaincy of Adam Gilchrist were crowned the new champions by defeating Royal challengers Bangalore by 6 runs.
Chennai super kings won the IPL tournament twice in the year 2010 and 2011 under the guidance of maverick captain MS dhoni.
The year 2012 saw the Kolkata night riders becoming champs by defeating Chennai super kings in a nail biting finish.
Championship title in 2013 and 2015 was claimed by Mumbai Indians, the franchise owned by Reliance industries group.
Kolkata night riders won IPL twice with Gautam Gambhir playing a very important role in transforming the fortunes of the team.

IPL 2016 Tickets
IPL is scheduled to start on 9th April with the finals to be held on 29th may 2016. As far as the tickets for the opening ceremonies are concerned, they can be purchased online from Book My show and the ticket genie website. In addition, the tickets will be available at the stadium box office across all the venues.
IPL 2016 Venue
The Inaugural match of the IPL T20, 2016 will be played at the Eden gardens stadium Kolkata against a packed crowd. The final match of the tournament will be organized at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai in front of the packed crowd. All matches would be organized in Mumbai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mohali. Similarly, other matches would be played at Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Raipur. Total number of matches played in IPL would be 60 spread across 51 days. Chennai and Jaipur fans would be missing all the actions of the IPL because CSK and RR are handed suspension for 2 years.
Shaheed veer narayan Sing stadium at Raipur will host the two home games for Delhi daredevils. In addition, the Vidarbha Cricket stadium in Nagpur would be host to the three games that would be played by Kings XI Punjab team.

The 9th season of the Indian Premier League was another splendid year for the RCB as that was for the third time, the team could make a place in the final. The Bangalore team started the season with a smashing win against Sunrisers Hyderabad but lost out in the next two matches against Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians. Then, RCB won again against Rising Pune Supergiant. After that, the team started losing out on matches on a row. However, it bounced back and made it to the Playoffs successfully. In the Qualifier Round, they defeated Gujarat lions and made en entry to the IPL final. However, they were defeated in the final match by Sunrisers Hyderabad and ended up in the runners-up position.
The 2016 IPL season was equally bad for the Punjab team as once again they finished on the last position of the points table. The team started the season with a loss in first two matches against Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils but won the 3rd match against Rising Pune Supergiants. They against lost in the following 3 matches against Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. Out of the 14 matches played, the team could only win in 4.
