Born in Delhi, he took cricket as a serious career. He was known for his aggressive cricket and shows his emotions loudly around public. He got his first international career in U19 world cup he was selected to lead the team. He made to feel that the selectors have made no mistake in making him as captain of team where he led the team to victory.
He made his first international century against Sri Lanka where he scored 107 runs of 114 balls and that lead to a great victory of India. He is known for his century against Sri Lanka where the team needed to chase 320 runs he scored 133 of 86 balls smashed Malinga over to 4’s and 6’s .
VIRAT KOHLI – A Gem of Indian Cricket Team
Virat Kohli, former captain of the Indian cricket team played his 100th test match on 4th March 2022 against Sri Lanka. He became the 12th Indian cricketer to play the 100th Test match. Virat entered the world of cricket in November 2006, when he was 18. He scored 10 runs for Delhi playing against Tamil Nadu. In December Virat opted to play against Karnataka and scored 90 runs. He played this match one day after his father’s death and this was the time when Virat came into the limelight.
Though Virat was passionate about cricket from his childhood, he believes that Sachin Tendulkar’s advice has helped him a lot in improving his game. In 2014, when MS Dhoni left in the middle of the series against Australia then Virat was appointed as the test Captain, and he scored 115 in 1st innings.
Kohli took captainship of India in full-time ODI in January 2017 against England. The series was at Pune and India got a 2-1 victory. Not only this, Kohli was declared Man of the Tournament two times in ICC World 20-20, in 2014 and 2016. He has also created the world record of being the fastest 23000 international runs. Virat Kohli has been a Gem for Indian Cricket. He is the only Batsman from India to achieve 890 rating points in the ICC ODI ranking. Earlier Sachin Tendulkar has the best rating of 887 in 1998. He also has the greatest number of 150+ scores as Test match Captain. Kohli also left back Brain Lara by scoring six double centuries as a test match captain. Virat’s success rate as a captain is better than M.S. Dhoni’s, it is 75.89%.
Other than these, Kohli has also received several awards. He was awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men's Cricketer of the Decade, 2011-2020 and for ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2017 and 2018. He received the Arjuna Award in 2013 and was honored by Padma Shri under the sports category in 2017.Virat was awarded the highest sporting honor in India in 2018 – The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
Apart from these, he has received various awards like Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for cricket in 2018, Wisden Cricketers of the year in 2019, CNN-IBN Indian of the year popular choice Award in 2017, ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the year in 2012, etc.
Virat Kohli got married to Anuskha Sharma on 11 December 2017. This adorable couple is blessed with baby girl ‘Vamika’ on 11th January 2021.
