Head To Head
The South Africa after winning the
single test match against Zimbabwe
played a One Day International series. It was a
three match series
in which the visitors were favorites to win it quite dominantly. The result of the series too came out to be the one as expected as in all the matches the home team lost the game easily. The three matches were played in the famous stadium in the city of Bulawayo of Zimbabwe.
In the 1st match
the South Africans bat first as the home side decided to file first after winning the toss. The decision was proved wrong as the visitors got a great start by their opener as Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla together gave their team a solid start. Kock scored 63 runs in the match and the 1st wicket came in the 21st over after the visitors had already reached the score of 109. Later Faf du Plessis scored 59 runs along with Amla to take his team further to new heights. The team finished the innings at a score of 309 where Hashim Amla played a role of an anchor in the game. he scored 122 runs and was unbeaten. The home side required a good batting performance but they were all out in the last over of the innings scoring only 216. Hamilton Masakadza and Sean Williams were the best batsmen in the team. they scored 61 and 51 respectively and put up a brave fight but the team failed to provide the support and it resulted into a loss.
The second match
yet again saw South Africans bat after losing the toss. This time around the Zimbabwe bowlers managed to perform better than the previous match. they made sure that this time the team was not allowed to run away with the match as they bowled them out to a score of 257 runs. Faf du Plessis was the highest scorer this time as he scored 55 runs and later David Miller provided the much needed depth to the batting as he played a 45 run innings to take his team to that score. John Nyumbu was the best bowler for the team as he gave away only 44 runs taking 2 wickets. The visitors came back strongly against the home side as they took some quick wickets for the team. the bowlers made sure that the match was always in their hands and bowled Zimbabwe out at a score of 196. Wayne Parnell and Ryan McLaren took 3 wickets each. Sean Williams was the top scorer scoring 55 runs.
The 3rd and the final match
was a formality and the South African bowlers didn’t hesitate to bowl to their strengths. They bowled the home side out in 165 runs in the 1st innings. Elton Chigumbura scored 90 runs which were the much required runs for the team as rest of the team failed to score much. Marchant de Lange took 3 wickets in the match. The visitors scored the required run pretty easily in just 28 overs. Quinton de Kock scored 84 runs and took his team home.
The South African thus emerged as champions as expected and Kock was named as the player of the Series.
