An impressive performance from the team leads to victory in the 1st ODI - The South Africa after winning the only Play-off test again Zimbabwe were all set to play a 3 ODI match series. The 1st ODI was played in the famous stadium of Bulawayo. After winning the toss the home side decided to field first. Batting first the South Africa team got off to a great start as Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla provided a great start to the visitors. The first wicket fell in the 21st over of the game when Kock lost his wicket after scoring 63 runs. He left the team at 109/1. Faf du Plessis came in and gave his team a good support on the build up to have a 100+ partnership for the 2nd wicket. After scoring 59 runs he lost his wicket in the 43rd over. AB de Villiers and Jean-Paul Duminy scored some quick runs in the end overs. Hashim Amla was yet again the best batsman for his team as he scored 122 runs and was unbeaten all the way. These batsmen together took their team to a total of 309 runs. John Nyumbu took 2 wickets in the innings and was the most successful bowler for the home side.

The Zimbabwe while chasing this big score needed a good start and some sensible and responsible play from the team. The home side got a bad start as they lost 3 quick wickets in 12 overs. Later Hamilton Masakadza and Sean Williams managed to build a partnership for the home side. Masakadza scored 61runs while Williams scored 51 runs.
