India have been luckier enough to have not needed to forge a strong partnership for the 6th wicket because most of the time India’s strong middle order fulfilled that task. But some time the team needed strong batting partnership down the order and senior batsmen like MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina played some good knocks in those dire situations.
However, the team could not build frequent plus fifty run partnership for sixth wicket partnership at T20 World Cup since 2007 barring an exception in 2009. Until now, only once did the team India successfully score 63* run partnership for the sixth wicket and that too in the year 2009. It means that over the last seven years India didn’t play that much effectively at this batting order.
In a match against South Africa in Colombo during 2012 T20 world cup, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina tried to create a new record for the 6th wicket partnership but eventually failed to do so. And could manage only 40-run stand for the 6th wicket. Thereafter in the subsequent editions of the World T20, no batting pair from India could even manage even 40 run for this wicket. But they got a few 30s for the sixth wicket involving MS Dhoni on most occasions.
