Ever since the inception of T20 World Cup in 2007, not many batsmen could build a good partnership for the 5th wicket, but considering India’s strong middle order, more than 6 times an Indian batting pair has succeeded to put 30 plus scores in World T20 Championship. Captain cool Dhoni was involved in 5 of them helping India out of trouble quite a number of times.
However, the 85-run partnership for the fifth wicket between MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma against South Africa during 2007 World T20 championship was still a record and remained unbroken for around 9 straight years. It was recently broken by Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya against Pakistan in Melbourne Cricket ground on 23 October. 113 is now the Highest 5th wicket partnership in T20 World cup. Interestingly, 113 is also the highest 5th wicket partnership in T20 by India.
Then again it was the experience of MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh that overtook India’s scorecard above 150 on scoreboard despite the team looked miserable on losing five for 84 at one stage in a match against Australia in World T20 Championship in 2014. However they fall short of 1-run & eventually couldn’t register the new highest fifth wicket partnership for India.
