The second wicket partnership in T20 matches hold a key to team’s huge total that we see these days. The T20 cricket world cup, launched in the year 2007, has witnessed as many as six hundred-run-stands for the second wicket in this tournament until now. Also, there are 32 fifty-run-partnerships for the second wicket in world T20 championship ever since the inauguration of this coveted tournament.
Out of 6 hundred-run-partnerships for the second wicket, Sri-Lanka registered 3 of them closely followed by India and England. The efficacy of Sri-Lankan top order batsmen can be easily gauged by this vital fact that legendary batsman Mahela Jayawardene was involved in all those three century-run-stands for the second wicket for Sri Lanka alongside Kumar Sangakkara or T Dilshan.
India’s flamboyant pair Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli repeated the success twice and shared two century-run stands between themselves for the second wicket in 2014 T20 World Cup while English pair Kieswetter & Pietersen got one hundred-run-partnership between them during World T20 Championship in 2010.
