Ever since the inauguration of twenty-twenty world cup way back in the year 2007, there are as many as 13 century-run partnership for the first wicket in this tournament. Interestingly, the batting pair to complete hundred-run partnership for the first wicket for the first time in T20 was the Caribbean explosive batsmen Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith. They also scored the record highest 145-run partnership for the first wicket which is still a world record.
The maximum hundred-run partnerships for the first wicket have been recorded by Australia for four times followed by West Indies. The Caribbean team hit an opening partnership of hundred or more runs three times in the T20 World Cup. In all those three opening century stands, Chris Gayle was involved. This reveals in itself how important Chris Gayle is for the team. And when he is in form Gayle storm is set to begin.
