2nd IPL i.e. IPL 2009 will start from April 18, 2009 and the IPL 2009 final will be played on May 24, 2009. Total 8 IPL 2009 teams are participating in this tournament.
The second season of the IPL was a great edition for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They commenced the season with a solid win against Rajasthan Royals. However, they kept on losing out on matches after that Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils. In the latter half of the season, Anil Kumble took up the role of skipper as the previous captain Kevin Pietersen left and it proved to be a turning point for the team. Under Kumble’s able guidance, the team started winning matches one after the other like a boss. They finally reached the semi-final where they defeated Chennai Super Kings which paved the way for the final. Unfortunately, the Bangalore-team got defeated by Deccan Chargers in the final and could not lift the IPL trophy.
The 2008 semi-finalists started the 2nd IPL season with a new strong sponsor (Emirates) that offered them enough backing to spend on new players. The team made two new additions to the team, Yusuf Abdullah and Jerome Taylor but could not bid on Aussie players as they were mostly unavailable. Worse, Taylor became unavailable too given his injury and the team was in a weak spot. KXIP commenced the 2nd IPL season with two losses to Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders. But, the squad bounced back on the 3rd match with a win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The team again had to face two back-to-back losses against Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians and they finally seized a win against RCB in the next match. However, they again had 3 losses against KKR, RR and CSK. Out of the 14 matches played they managed to win at 7 and finished at the 5th position on the points table.
