The last one day international between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe was played at the Queen Sports Club in Bulawayo city on 24th October. With both teams locked at 2-2, it was an interesting match however Afghanistan pulled a coup of sorts as they trumped hosts by 73 runs. Like other matches of the series, Hosts won the toss and invited tourists to bat first on a pitch with initial swing and seam. Afghanistan was up for challenge as the opening partnership garnered 35 runs for the first wicket however it was broken when SHAHZAAD lost his wicket to MASAKZAADA.
NABI too joined in and laid the solid foundation of the innings with a useful half century of 70 balls. Opener NOORALI ZADRAN continued his role of sheet anchor by scoring 54 runs, a knock that was studded with 4 fours to the boundary. Apart from STANIKZAI, nobody in the middle order could pose a challenge to the Zimbabwe bowlers. To round off the innings, MIRWAIS ASHRAF hit 21 runs lower down the order and was supported by DAWLAT ZADRAN who assisted Afghanistan to post a total of 245 runs on the board. MASKAKZAADA was the highest wicket taker from the Zimbabwe team scalping 3 wickets for 31 runs.
Zimbabwe had a forgettable start as the team lost both openers cheaply with ZADRAN playing as the tormentor. He clean bowled MUTUMBAMI with his in swinging Yorker and put the hosts right on the back foot at the start of the innings. SC Williams started the rear guard action with a brilliant century of 102 runs however he couldn’t find support from other batsmen. E CHIGUMBURA was dismissed cheaply for 14 runs while lower order was bamboozled by the spin of Amir HAMZA. Williams was the last wicket to be dismissed when the Zimbabwe score was 172 runs in 45th over. ZADRAN and SC willies were jointly declared the man of the match.
