Batting first the Indians didn’t get a good solid partnership from the openers as Ajinkya Rahane after scoring 28 runs lost his wicket in the 8h over of the match. Ambati Rayudu the next man in also didn’t last long and in the 13th over he was bowled out by Shaminda Eranga. The match then took a turn as Rohit Sharma the man retuning from injury took charge after having a slow start. He hit the ball at will past the fielders. Rohit and Virat Kohli together had brilliant 202 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. They together took the total to 261 in 39th over. Kohli after scoring 66 runs lost his wicket. The Sri Lankans had a tough task at hand and it was a challenge to overcome the required amount of runs. They got off to a very poor start losing many wickets in the beginning of the match. At a score of 48 the team had already lost 4 wickets in the game which ruined all their chances in the match. Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne did had a partnership going in the middle but the required rate was too high and thus after scoring  and 59 respectively they lost their wicket thus the Lankans were able to score only 251 runs thus losing the match by 153 runs. Dhawal Kulkarni took 4 wickets in the match and recorded his best performance in an ODI. The Indians now lead the series by 4-0.
