The BCCI has confirmed the Australian trip to India in September 2023 to compete in a 3-match ODI series as a warm-up for the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023. The 3 ODI series will be crucial for India since it will host all the matches of the ODI World Cup. The India vs Australia ODI series 2023 will begin with the 1st ODI at Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium, Mohali on 22 September, then both nations will take the route of Holkar Stadium, Indore to play the 2nd ODI on 24 September. The last match of the series will be hosted by Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on 27 September.
Rohit Sharma will be seen in the key role of captain under the guidance of Rahul Dravid as a head coach. On the other hand, Pat Cumminsv will take charge of Australia as a captain under the mentorship of Andrew McDonald. Currently, both teams exhibit contrasting forms; India appears to be in excellent shape, holding the top position in the ICC ODI rankings, while Australia seems to be struggling with its form, occupying the 6th position.
It would be interesting to note that Australia has recently visited India for the ODI series in 2022/23 and they successfully achieved a series win by 2-1. In that series, Mitchell Marsh became the top scorer with 194 runs, and Mitchell Starc Took the most wickets.
In terms of head-to-head in ODI, India, and Australia have met each other on 145 occasions where Australia came out as a dominating squad against India by winning 81 matches while losing only 54 ODIs. Overall, India has appeared in 1,032 ODIs where they successfully achieved victory in 541 while losing 439 matches. On the other hand, Australia has contested 978 where they won 594 and lost 341 ODIs.
So, it would be interesting to watch how both teams will take on each other in Ind vs Aus ODI series just before the commencing of the Cricket World Cup in 2023.
