After getting a defeat from New Zealand in the final game of the World Test Championship, the Indian cricket team will visit the West Indies in the month of July-August to take part in the test series. The West Indies vs India test series 2023 will be an integral part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. The first test match of the upcoming series will be contested from 12 July to 16 July 2023 and the last test will be played from 20 July to 24 July.
The WI vs Ind test series 2023 which will begin in July will include 2 test matches which will be played at Windsor Park and Queen's Park Oval. Situated in Roseau, Dominica, Windsor Park venue functions as the national stadium of the country primarily dedicated to hosting cricket matches. With a seating capacity of 12,000 spectators, it accommodates a substantial number of individuals. On the other hand, Queen’s Park Oval is situated in Port of Spain, Trinidad, and Tobago and it has a capacity of 20,000 people to take in. The last test of the series at Trinidad and Tobago will keep a special place for West Indies because the stadium will host its 100th test on 24 July 2023.
Currently, Kraigg Brathwaite is handling the captaincy of the West Indies test squad so most probably he will take charge of the upcoming test series against India under the coaching of Andre Coley. On the other hand, India will visit West Indies under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Currently, India holds the top position in the ICC test team ranking whereas West Indies is listed in the 8th position.
In terms of head-to-head in test cricket, West Indies and India faced each other in 98 tests where West Indies dominated the Indian team by winning 30 tests and India won only 22 tests. The remaining 46 matches ended as a draw with no result. Overall, West Indies has appeared in 571 tests out of which they achieved victory in 182 matches and faced defeat in 208 matches. On the other hand, India has appeared in 570 tests where they achieved victory in 172 and lost 176 tests. India is looking good in form as they became runners-up in the last World Test Championship in 2023. So, it would be interesting to watch how India will perform on the Caribbean land in the upcoming test series between West Indies and India 2023.
