Sri Lanka wins a low scoring match to double the lead in the series - After the defeat in 1st ODI the English team were looking to comeback in the series. The England team performed well in the 1st match but lost the game with a small margin. The game had all the promise as both the teams looked strong. The 2nd ODI was played at the same venue as the 1st ODI. After winning the toss England won the toss and decided to bat first.

The match was rain hit and was reduced to a mere 45 over match per side. Batting first the England sided didn’t have off to a great start. The Sri Lankan bowlers were on top of the visitors and didn’t give them the freedom of going away with the match pretty easily. Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali failed to score much as they lost their wicket at a score of 22 and 2 runs respectively. Ian Bell too didn’t offer much as he lost his wicket after scoring 11 runs only. It was Joe Root and Ravi Bopara who scored some runs for the visitors as they score 42 and 51 runs respectively taking the team to a score of 185 in 43 overs. The Sri Lankans were successful in bowling them out at a low total. Ajantha Mendis was the top bowler who took 3 wickets to ensure that his team didn’t require climbing the mountain of runs.

The two experienced players of Sri Lankan squad Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene played together to make sure that the team didn’t faulted in the a small target game. Sangakkara scored 67 runs and Jayawardene scored 77 runs to make sure that the team reached the score of 186 runs in 35 overs only. Before this Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kusal Perera failed to score much runs as they lost their wicket cheaply at a score of 26 and 9 respectively. Jayawardene was named as the man of the match for his outstanding batting display. Sri Lanka now leads the 7 match series by 2-0.
