Kariyawasam Tirana Gamage Dhammika Prasad was born on 30th May 1983 in Ragama in Sri Lanka. Prasad is a right hand batsman and bowls right arm fast medium balls. Dhammika received his formal education at De Mazenod College in Kandana. Prasad is a top order batsman.
Career Highlights:
- Prasad played his first First-Class match in 2001-2002
- His first List A debut was in 2002-2003
- His first One Day International was against Bangladesh on 25th February 2006 at Chittagong. Prasad picked up 2 wickets and Sri Lanka won the match.
- Prasad debuted in Test cricket versus India on 8th August 2008
- He played his first T20I versus Australia on 6th of August 2011. Prasad couldn’t pick up any wicket though Sri Lanka won the match by 35 runs.
After Prasad’s initial breakthrough, he was kept off the game for a period of more than six months. After which he went on to be a part of the A squad. After some consistence performances he was the test captain against India in August 2008. He picked up 5 wickets in the match.
Prasad initially began his cricketing career as a batsman and used to come out onto the pitch at number 3. However, later he was forced to alter to bowling, that too fast paced. This was due to the unavailability of any bowler to bowl the new ball at De Mazenod College.
Dhammika has represented Basnahira North, Sri Lanka A, Kandurata Maroons, Sri Lanka Schools XI, Sinhalese Sports Club, De Mazenod College and the national team of Sri Lanka. He has one sibling N Kariyawasam. Dhammika had won a six month long scholarship for his stay in England.
