Alastair Cook is a English player who represents England and also plays county cricket for Essex. The left handed batsman born in 1984 and currently he is leading his team in Test and ODI formats. He was given the responsibilities of a captain after the retirement of former English skipper and opener Andrew Strauss in 2012. In his captaincy, first time England had taste of victory against India in 2012 since 1984-85. During the tour, he scored 5 centuries, and became the first captain to score a century in each of his first five Tests in charge. Cook was recognized as English team’s Test skipper in 2011 and ODI skipper one year later. Cook generally opens the innings in Test and ODI formats. Cook made his Test debut in 2006 when he played against India. He has given his valuable contribution in 92 games so far and has added around 7500 runs in his score card batted with an average of 50. His score card also includes 25 tons and 29 fifties. He has 2 wonderful records of scoring centuries in first five tests against India in 2012 and he was the youngest player who scored a total of 7000 runs in 2012. He has got Man of the Match award in 5 Test matches so far. When it comes to his ODI career, he made his debut in the same year in which he made his Test debut against Sri Lanka. He has played 64 matches and has made around 2500 runs with his bat with an average of 40 which also include 5 crucial tons and 16 half-centuries. He scored a century of 137 against Pakistan in 2012 and this figure was set as his best score in ODI matches. He has been awarded by Man of the Match award 7 times as yet in ODI format. Apart from his cricket career, Cook is also keenly interested in music. Cook has donated his time to various charities including taking part in The Great City Race for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
