The South African cricket team started off their tour of Zimbabwe with a single test match that is to be played in the series. The game started off with the home side winning the toss and batting first. It was expected that the home side will have a difficult time against a formidable bowling line up of South Africa. The result was totally different from the expectation. The home side batted of the first session jitters pretty comfortable. They scored 64 runs in the 1st session of the game. During this 64 runs innings the home side lost 2 wickets. Later the home side saw some great batting display from the captain and Hamilton Masakadza. They together put up a great show and Masakadza scored 45 runs before losing the wicket. This wicket opened the doors for the South African bowlers as they started taking the wickets easily. The 2nd session of the game saw the fall of 3 wickets of the home side. At tea the home side were standing at 165/5.The last session of the 1st day saw the home side lose 4 more wickets. The home side ended their 1st day of the test match at 248/9.
On the start of the 2nd day the home side lost its entire wicket and finished the 1st innings at a score of 256. Brendan Taylor was the highest scorer of the innings as he scored 93 runs. Dale Steyn was the top wicket taker of the innings as he took 5 wickets. The South Africans started their innings on the 2nd day. Dean Elgar scored 61 runs in the innings while the top scorer of the innings was Faf du Plessis who scored 98 runs and missed his century for just 2 runs. Quinton de Kock scored 81 runs while Jean-Paul Duminy scored 55 runs. these batsmen in the 1st innings helped the visitors to reach a score of 397. At a point it seemed that the visitors would be running away with the game but the home side came back well to take some quick wickets. at the end of 3rd day the Zimbabwe team started of their 2nd innings and lost the 1 wicket in the game.
In the 4th day the home side batted the 1st session quite brilliantly as at lunch the team was standing at 81/2. It was a strong position to be in. The second session of the day proved to be fruitful for the visitors as they took 5 wickets. the home side ended their 2nd innings at 181 just after tea. Vusi Sibanda and Richmond Mutumbami was the top scorer in the 2nd innings as they scored 45 and 43 respectively. Dane Piedt took 4 wickets in the innings from South Africa. The visitors comfortably chased down a target of 41 runs easily thus winning the match. Dane Piedt was decided as the man of the match for his wonderful bowling performance.
