Sri Lanka registers a thumping victory against England - England after winning the 1st ODI led the series by 1-0. Today at Riverside Ground in Chester-Le-Street England faced the Sri Lankan cricket team in the second match of the five match ODI series. On winning the toss the English captain decided to field first. Batting first the Lankan didn’t have a good start as after slow scoring Lahiru Thirimanne got out in the 9th over of the match after scoring only 10 runs. Later the old guard Tilakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara took the centre stage and managed to build up the innings. After scoring 40 runs Sangakkara lost his wicket and Sri Lanka was 129/2. Dilshan after a splendid innings of 80 runs was bowled by Chris Jordan. Later Angelo Mathews and the youngster Ashan Priyanjan managed to score 30 and 43 runs respectively taking their team total to 256. Harry Gurney and James Anderson were the two best bowlers for the home team.

It was a horrific chase for English side as only two players from the side managed to score in double figures. Apart from this all the other batsmen failed to cross the single digit mark. Eion Morgan managed to score 40 runs for the team before giving away his wicket to Dhammika Prasad. While Ian Bell the other batsmen who entered the double figure managed to score only 12 runs and gave his wicket to Nuwan Kulasekara. Sachithra Senanayke took 4 wickets ensuring that the Lankans come back in the series with a thumping victory as the home side crumbled to a score of 99 runs only in 26.1 overs. Tilakaratne Dilshan was awarded the man of the match award for his 80 run innings. With this win the Lankans levelled the series as now the five match series stands on a score of 1-1.
