India wins an interesting test match at Lords after 28 years - The 2nd test match of the Investec series between England and India was played at the famous ground of Lord’s. The pitch prepared for this test was a green wicket full of grass and hence after winning the toss the English captain Alastair Cook decided to field first.

Day 1 saw the bowl do all sorts of stuff and there were balls which were unplayable. Shikhar Dhawan was the 1st man to go as he faced a great delivery from James Anderson. Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara looked good on crease as they left along the right balls outside off stump. Both these batsmen were negotiating the swinging balls well. But just before the lunch Vijay after scoring 24 runs lost his wicket. The team India on a green track at lunch were at 73/2. The second session saw the home team make a comeback in the game as they took 4 wickets in this session. Anderson was the man for home side as he with his line took all the wickets. The Indian team in the 3rd session made a comeback in the innings riding on a century from Ajinkya Rahane and some good batting by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The visitors ended their day at 290/9.

Early at the start of Day 2 saw the fall of India’s last wicket and the visitors ended their day at 295 runs. James Anderson finished the game with 4 wickets while Rahane was the top scorer scoring 103 runs. The England 1st innings started off just in the morning. They didn’t have a good start as they lost both the openers before the Lunch on Day 2. Both the wickets were taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The second session saw a strong batting performance from the home side. They managed to score 75 runs by losing 2 wickets in this session. Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja was the only wicket taker in this session. Gary Ballance scored a century before losing his wicket in the innings. The team ended their day at 219/6.

From the start of Day 3
the Indians had the better of England as they managed to bowl the home team out just before the lunch. The English side was all out at 319 with Liam Plunkett scoring a half century. Bhuvneshwar Kumar managed to 6 wickets for his team. The Indians went off to a solid start in the game. They scored 84 runs losing only wicket of Shikhar Dhawan at tea. The team looked to be in full control. The third session of the day was a game changing one as the home side took 3 quick wickets leaving the visitors struggling for runs. The day ended with India at 169/4.

At the start of Day 4 the Indians played the morning session well. But as the end of the session came close they lost 3 wickets leaving the team at 267/7. In this session Murali Viay was out caught behind at a score of 95 on the other Ravindra Jadeja emerged to the scene and scored some real quick runs. The runs kept flowing in the 2nd session as Jadeja completed his half century in just 42 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar too made his 3rd half century of the series. Both these batsmen took their team to a massive lead of 319 runs. The visitors ended their 2nd innings at 342 runs. Benn Stokes and Liam Plunkett took 3 wickets each in the innings. The England team had a good start for the 2nd innings as they scored 70 runs with the loss of 1 wicket. But as the end of the day approached near Mohammad Shami took the wicket of well-set Gary Balance and later the dangerous Ishant Sharma struck twice. Thus the home side ended the day at 105/4 staring to a defeat in the 5th and final day.

The Day 5 began with the two batsmen Moen Ali and Joe Root providing the much needed resistance. It looked as if the 5th wicket would be difficult for team India. Just before the lunch Ishant Sharma took the wicket of Ali with a short ball. What followed the 5th wicket was just a shock for the home team. Wickets kept on falling and Ishant was the bowler who was behind every success. He took 5 wickets in the day and took his tally for the innings to 7 wickets. The sort ball did the trick for team India and resulted in to their 2nd test match victory in Lord’s. Ishant finished the innings taking 7/74 and was named as the man of the match for it. With this win India now leads the 5 match series by 1-0 with 3 matches to go.
