The second match of the T20 series was played at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack however it was marred by the unruly crowd behavior. Indian team looking to avenge the defeat of the first game decided to bat first and was all out for their second lowest score in the T20 matches. The final verdict was 6wicket win in favor of South Africa. The match was held up for 50 minutes as the crowd started throwing bottles on the ground. Pitch of the stadium was not at all conducive to the seam bowling of the South Africans however the Indian batsmen didn’t apply themselves. Majority of the batsmen fell to poor shot selection and suffered from the lack of concentration. Top scorers were Raina and Rohit with 22 each but the effort was insufficient as the rest of the batsmen could only muster 37 runs. Albie Morkel who was returning after a hiatus of 3 years into the side took 3/12 and became the man of the match.

Although initially South Africa resorted to bounce the ball, it was KAGISO RABADA who set the tone of the match by pitching the ball up. As a result, Shikhar Dhawan was out plum LBW in front of the wicket by Chris Morris. Virat KOHLI who was timing the ball well met a different fate as he was run out by the same bowler when he threw the ball accurately from the mid wicket to the wicket keeper. Rohit, the first T20 centurion was tied down by the accurate bounce and line from RABADA and Morris resulting in a run out due to the prompt reaction from David Miller.

While Indian inning was suffering from mayhem, MORKEL joined the party by snuffing out captain DHONI, AXAR PATEL and BHUVANESHWAR KUMAR. Indian performance was so dismal that the team was not able to play the full quota of overs. During the South African innings, DU PLESIS and DE VILLERS were removed by ASHWIN and the Indians were breathing down the neck of the South Africans at 49/3 but like in the first match, DUMINI steadied the ship and overhauled the total with 17 balls to spare. All in all it was a clinical finish by the guests. ALBIE MORKEL was awarded the man of the match because he took three crucial wickets for 12 runs after a long hiatus.
