Chennai romp Punjab to make their way into the finals - The 2nd semi-final of the Oppo Champions League T20 2014 was similar to the semi-final of the Indian Premiere League held in the first half of this year. The Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab came face to face fighting for the only single position vacant in the finals of the tournament. This Semi-final was played in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After winning the toss in this important fixture Punjab decided to field first.

Bowling first the Punjab bowlers were able to strike early for their team. Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum lost their wicket early in the innings. In the 5th over of the game the team found themselves in 29/2. Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina came in together and it seemed that it was their day but soon Parvinder Awana took the prized wicket of Suresh Raina in the 6th over of the match. Dwayne Bravo joined Faf and the innings continued. It was this partnership that helped the Super Kings claw their way back in the match. Together the players took the team to a score of 16/4.in the 14th over the team lost the wicket of Faf as he was batting on a score of 46. This was the moment when Bravo fired all his guns. He took the score to 160 runs in 18.3 overs. He lost his wicket after scoring 67 runs in just 39 balls. Ravindra Jadeja in the end took his team to a better position scoring 27 off 13 balls. With this the Super Kings finished their innings at 182 in 20 overs. Awana took 4 wickets in the match.

Chasing a score of 182 in a semi-final is always tough. The Kings XI Punjab was unable to get a good start as they lost too many wickets in search of quick runs. The team was restricted to 24/4 in just overs of their innings. The team didn’t get a respite as they lost 2 more wickets and were reduced to 34/ in 7.3 overs. It was a dent that was pretty big to fill. David Miller scored 22 runs and Akshar Patel scored 31 runs in the match but their resistance fell to as the task was a quite higher than it seemed. The Punjab lost the match as they were bowled out at a score of 117 runs. Ashish Nehra was the top bowler as he took 2 wickets giving away runs at an economy rate of 3 runs per over.

Dwayne Bravo won the Oppo Man of the match award and Suzuki Gixxer Power player award. For these two awards he got prize money worth USD 5000. With this win the team now moved to the Finals of the tournament to meet Kolkata Knight Riders.
