The Indian Premier League is one of the largest cricket game events which are organized annually in India. IPL (Indian Premier League) was founded in 2007 by the BCCI committee. The chairman of the Indian Premier League was Lalit Modi. 2007-2008 was the launching season for the Indian Premier League. IPL starting year was 2008 and the first match was played on 18 April. This IPL season was launched by giving rise to 8 teams. Every team played one match with each other. It's a domestic cricket league which attracts huge amounts of cricket fans all over the world every year.
It began 16 years ago as an ambitious project is now considered to be the best Twenty-20 league in the world. The most successful IPL team is the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, who have won the tournament five times. The other team to have lifted the IPL title on two occasions is Kolkata Knight Riders.
Kolkata Knight Riders is now IPL Current Champion (Last IPL Winner).

First IPL Winner 2008 (Inaugural Season) - Rajasthan Royals
This was the first season held among the above teams. This season’s final was held in India on 18 April. The IPL 2008 final match was played between Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals (Winner), at DY Patil stadium, Mumbai. With 34226000 audiences, the stadium was full of crowds. Shawn Marsh had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Sohil Tanvir had owned a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. Shane Watson was the player of the series.
Rajasthan Royals had won against the Chennai Super Kings by three wickets running over the CSK's target of 163/5 in 20 overs at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Shane Watson from Rajasthan Royals had earned the recognition of man of the tournament honour for his exceptional all-rounder performance.
The Rajasthan Royals, led by Shane Warne, had won the first edition of the Indian Premier League. The core of the Rajasthan Royals in the first edition was a thoroughly well-balanced squad of experienced batsmen such as Shane Watson and Graeme Smith, an explosive batsman like Yusuf Pathan in the middle order, and a deceptive bowler like Sohail Tanvir. But in the final against the Chennai Super Kings, Yusuf Pathan had played his life's match with bowling and batting department contributions. Yusuf had taken three main wickets with a run-rate of less than a bowl and scored a quickfire 56 out of 39.
Winner of IPL 2009 - Deccan Chargers
This was the second season of IPL 2, the first time outside India held in South Africa. In this season, the IPL 2009 final match was held between Deccan chargers (Winner) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mathew Hayden had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and RP Singh had got a purple as the highest wicket-taker. Over 200 million viewers from India had viewed this match.
Deccan Chargers had scored 143 runs by losing six wickets in 20 overs, fixing a target of 144 runs for the team of Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB went wrong to stalk the target by six runs and could score 137 runs only by losing nine wickets in 20 overs at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Adam Gilchrist was declared as the player of the match for his contribution of 495 runs with the bat and 18 catches behind the stumps.
2010 IPL Winner - Chennai Super Kings
This was the third season of IPL 3. It was held in India. In this season, the IPL 2010 final match was held between Chennai Super Kings (Winner) vs Mumbai Indians at Mumbai. Sachin Tendulkar (612) had got the orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Pragyan Ojha had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. There were 200 million viewers in this season also.
The batting was first done by Chennai Super Kings and marked 168 runs by losing five wickets from 20 overs. Mumbai Indians had failed to achieve the target and made only 146 runs from 20 overs after forfeiting nine wickets and missed the match by 22 runs. Sachin Tendulkar was declared as the player of the game for marking 618 runs.
After losing it in the inaugural edition, MS Dhoni eventually lifted the trophy. With the help of Suresh Raina, Mathew Hayden, Albie Morkel, Muralitharan, and Dhoni himself, right at the beginning of the tournament, the team was the strong contender for the championship. With the bat acting as the backbone of the team's batting line-up during the game, Suresh Raina was completely brilliant. It was his knock of 57 not out of 35 that led Mumbai Indians to light up CSK's path to glory in its final against Sachin Tendulkar.
IPL Winner of 2011 : Chennai Super Kings
This was the fourth season of IPL 4 held in India. This season was played between 10 teams divided into two groups. New teams from Pune and Kochi were added. A page play-off system was introduced. In this season, the 2011 final IPL match was held at Chennai between Chennai Super Kings (Winner) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore. This time Chris Gayle had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer and Lasith Malinga had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker.
The Batting was first done by CSK and it had marked 205 runs after losing five wickets from 20 overs, lifting a huge mark for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB had lost the game for the second time in an IPL final as they had made only 147 runs after forfeiting eight wickets from 20 overs.
CSK had gained a victory by scoring 58 more runs. Murali Vijay was awarded with the recognition of man of the match honour in the final for scoring 95 runs. RCB's Chris Gayle was cited the player of the game recognition for scoring 608 runs and grabbing eight wickets in the event.
IPL winner of 2012 : Kolkata Knight Riders
This was the fifth season of IPL held in India between 8 teams. In this season, the IPL 2012 final match was held between Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Winner). Chris Gayle had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Morne Morkel had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. The player of the match was Sunil Narine.
The Batting was first done by CSK and it had marked 191 runs after scoring 190/3 in 20 overs in which Suresh Raina had scored 73 runs by losing 38 balls.
Kolkata Knight Riders had come up with great strengths under the captainship of Gautam Gambhir and met the target achieving 192 runs by losing five wickets with two balls to skimp on, along with Manvinder Bisla achieving 89 runs by losing 48 balls. The player of the match was Sunil Narine for grabbing 24 wickets in 15 innings.
IPL 2013 Winner : Mumbai Indians
This was the sixth season of PepsiCo IPL 6 and it was held in India. In this season, IPL 2013 final match was held between Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians (Winner). Michael Hussy had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Morne Morkel had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. Shane Watson from RR was declared as the man of the series.
Mumbai Indians achieved 148 runs by losing nine wickets in 20 overs. Chennai Super Kings, however, fell flat, scoring just 125 runs by losing nine wickets in 20 overs and lost the tournament by 23 runs. Mumbai Indians held up the IPL trophy under the youthful leadership of Rohit Sharma.
The man of the match was given to Shane Watson for his exceptional all-rounder accomplishment. Rohit Sharma, the hitman, led the Mumbai Indians to their first IPL glory. MI did so in the final of the 2013 IPL by beating Chennai Super Kings. Throughout the tournament, the side was well balanced. A constant part of the team playing XI was the performance of of Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga, and Mitchell Johnson.
IPL Winner 2014: Kolkata Knight Riders
This was the seventh season of IPL 7 held in India. In this season, IPL 2014 final match was held between Kolkata Knight Riders (Winner) vs Kings XI Punjab. Robin Uthappa had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Mohit Sharma had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. Among eight teams, Gellen Maxwell was the leading player of the series.
Kolkata chased down a huge target at the IPL final for the second time. With the help of Manish Pandey's 94 off 50 balls, KKR had scored 200/7 with three balls to spare and lifted the coveted IPL Trophy for the second time. Glenn Maxwell was awarded the man of the series for his all-round performance, especially his contribution of 552 runs from 16 innings with the bat.
The second team to win the IPL trophy more than once was the Kolkata Knight Riders. Manvinder Bisla was the hero in the 2012 edition final, this time, it was the heroics of Manish Pandey that led KKR to chase a massive 199 total. Robin Uthappa of KKR earned an orange cap in 16 innings, scoring 660 runs.
IPLT20 Winner 2015: Mumbai Indians
This was the eighth season of IPL held in India. In this season, IPL 2015 final match was held between Mumbai Indians (Winner) vs Chennai Super Kings. David Warner had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Dwayne Bravo had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. The player of the match was given to Andre Russell.
This time Mumbai had achieved 202 runs at a loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. The Chennai Super Kings had missed the match with 41 runs as they had scored only 161 runs after losing eight wickets from 20 overs.
After CSK and KKR, the Mumbai Indians had become the third team to win the title more than once. Again, the Mumbai Indians' apt balance helped them win the trophy. The batting unit was assisted by Simmons, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayadu, and Kieron Pollard. Lasith Malinga had directed the bowling department. In the match, Lasith Malinga had taken 24 wickets but could not get the purple crown. By scalping two additional wickets, Dwayne Bravo had gone ahead of him.
IPL T20 Winner of 2016: Sunrisers Hyderabad
This was the ninth season of IPL 9, and it was held in India. In this season, IPL 2016 final match was held between Sunrisers Hydrabad (Winner) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both teams, Chennai and Rajasthan Royals, were excluded from participating in this season. Virat Kohli had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Bhuvaneshvar Kumar had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. The player of the match was Virat Kohli (RCB).
RCB concluded the match with 200 runs from 20 overs by losing seven wickets. The man of the match award was given to RCB's captain Virat Kohli for his contribution 973 runs from 16 innings, which also incorporated four centuries.
With just eight runs, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team had managed to win the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore. David Warner had masterfully designed the squad voyage through the season as a captain. But in nearly all the RCB matches, the season was more about the Virat Kohli-Ab de Villiers partnership. In 16 innings he played, Virat scored four centuries and seven half-centuries! There should be no question about who the season's orange cap winner was.
IPL 2017 Winner - Mumbai Indians
This was the tenth season of the IPL, IPL 10 held in India. In this season, 2017 IPL final match was played between Mumbai Indians (Winner) vs Pune. David Warner had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Bhuvaneshva Kumar had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. Ben Strok (Pune) was the player of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians had scored very low. They had made only 129 runs after losing eight wickets from 20 overs. They yet regulated the Rising Pune Supergiants to 128/6 in 20 overs, winning against the tournament by just one run.
This match became the third winning victory for Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma. The player of the match was given to Ben Stokes of the Rising Pune Supergiants for his contribution of 316 runs and 12 wickets.
IPL T20 Winner 2018 - Chennai Super Kings
This was the 11th season of the IPL, IPL 11 held in India. In this season, IPL 2018 final match was played between Mumbai Indians (Winner) vs Chennai Super Kings. Kane Williamson had got an orange cap as the highest run-scorer, and Andrew Tye had got a purple cap as the highest wicket-taker. The player of the match was Sunil Narine.
In the first inning, Sunrisers Hyderabad had achieved 178 runs with a loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs, setting up a huge 179 run target for CSK. CSK was able to achieve the huge target and marked 181/2 with nine balls to the threshold and held up the IPL Trophy for the third time.
IPL Winner 2019 - Mumbai Indians
In this season, i.e. IPL 12 Mumbai Indians had achieved one more victory. It was the most active team in the past of the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians had won against the Chennai Super Kings for the fourth time in the Indian Premier League final. Out of the last three events, Mumbai had created 2-1 record defeating the competition in 2013, 2015, and losing the tournament once in 2010.
Mumbai Indians confronted Chennai Super Kings in a very low scoring match at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. In the first inning, Mumbai had scored 149 runs after losing eight wickets from 20 overs. They had yet regulated the Chennai Super Kings to 148/7 in 20 overs, won the tournament by just one run. The player of the match award was given to Andre Russell from Kolkata Knight Riders for his contribution of 510 runs and 11 wickets in the tournament.
The IPL 2019 final saw the battle of the titans again. In the finals, the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings had met again. Shardul Thakur, who had hoped for at least one super-over run, struggled to tackle Malinga's off-cutter. Thus, for a record 4th time, the Mumbai Indians had become the champions. With this, the Mumbai Indians had become the most successful team in the history of the IPL and won the fourth IPL trophy.
IPL 2020 Winner - Mumbai Indians
IPL 2020 was a huge successful season for Indian cricket board. IPL 13 was held at Abu Dhabi, Dubai from September to November. Mumbai Indians won the IPL 2020 title by defeating Delhi Capitals in the night of finals. MI won the title for the 5th time. Mumbai Indians team was led by Rohit Sharma and they dominated throughout the season. Mumbai and Delhi clashed 4 times in IPL 2020 and all 4 times MI defeated DC. Ishan Kishan scored most runs for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. He showed highly reliable performance.
Mumbai Indians team was very balanced from the start with Boult and Bumrah as their frontline seam bowlers. Hard hitters Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard gave brilliant finishes to team. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock used to open the inning for Mumbai team and they both scored good amount of runs in the beginning only. Quinton de Kock scored 503 runs for MI in IPL 2020. Jasprit Bumrah took most wickets for Mumbai team. He was outstanding with both new ball and in death overs. He took 27 wickets and he was just 3 wickets behind from Kagiso Rabada who won purple cap in IPL 2020. Trent Boult also took 25 wickets for Mumbai Indians. He was brilliant with new ball. He took most wickets in power play of IPL 2020.
Trent Boult destroyed Delhi’s top order in the nights of final. Trent Boult was also selected as player of the match in IPL 2020 final for his brilliant bowling performance. Mumbai Indians also topped the league stages. They won 9 league games out of 14. They deserved to win the title and they did it. It was a complete team effort. Every individual in the team contributed for the title. Whether in bowling department or in batting and fielding department, Mumbai team was perfect.
Last IPL Winner 2021: Chennai Super Kings
In the 14th version of the Indian Premier League last year, Chennai Super Kings lifted the trophy 4th time by defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders, previously they have done this feat in the year 2010, 2011, and 2018 (Check the table above). The final competition of the IPL 2021 was held at the Dubai International Stadium on Oct 15, 2021, and this was the fourth occasion when CSK became the champions of IPL 14.
Eoin Morgan was the captain of KKR who won the toss and invited the CSK to bat first, CSK started well and completed their first 50 runs in 6 overs. They continued this pace of making runs and had put a total of 192 runs on the scoreboard. Faf du Plessis played a match-winning 86 runs off 59 balls with 7 boundaries and 3 sixes.
Kolkata Knight Riders needed 193 runs to register a victory in the IPL Final. Despite a great start by Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders could not achieve the target. Shubman Gill and Venkatesh contributed 91 runs in pairs for the first wicket but after their fall, no batter could do enough to win the title.
Faf du Plessis was called for the Man of the Match in the final match of IPL 2021. Harsha Patel became the Man of the series of IPL 2021 sessions.
IPL Winner 2022: Gujarat Titans
We saw a new team and a new champion in TATA IPL 2022. Gujarat Titans won the IPL 15 by defeating Rajasthan Royals in the final match. Hardik Pandya won the man of the match award while Jos buttler from Rajasthan Royals won Player of the Series award.
