Pride and disappointment in the T20 World Cup final as West Indies lift trophy against Sri Lanka in an enchanting match

West Indies are the proud champions of the World T20 as they beat Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the final. West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first but it was not a start which they wanted as they lost Charles and the big hitter Gayle within the first 6 overs and that too with just 14 runs on board. Sri Lanka was confident about winning this world cup but the underdogs West Indies also had a trick or two up their sleeves. Samuels played a gem of an innings scoring 78 of just 56 balls hitting 6 massive sixes and 3 boundaries. Sammy and Bravo were the other two batsmen who managed to score in the double figures. All this happened due to some superb bowling from Mendis as he picked up 4 wickets for just 12 runs in his 4 overs. West Indies posted just 137 runs after 20 overs which looked to be an easy total for the home team.

Sri Lanka too started off shakily with Dilshan being sent to the pavilion of a brilliant delivery from Rampual. Sangakkara and Jayawardene provided a good partnership but that was not good enough as the former had to depart of a good delivery from Badree. After that none of the Sri Lankan really stood up against the West Indies bowling and once Jayawardene was out it was almost curtains for Sri Lanka. Kulasekara did try to lighten things up towards the end but that was not enough and he was out caught in the deep. Sri Lanka managed to score just 101 before they were all out with 8 balls to spare. Narine picked up 3 wickets but the day belonged to Samuels who was brilliant both with the bat and with the ball picking up a wicket and giving away just 15 runs. He was rightly announced the man of the match.
