Duckworth/Lewis plays a part as Australia beat West Indies by 17 runs
Rain played a big part in the match between Australia and West Indies and though it was supposed to be a thrilling contest the rain gods had other ideas. Batting first West Indies had put up a huge total on the board of 191 in their 20 overs. They started off shakily losing their first wicket for 11 runs but Chris Gayle and Johnson Charles countered the attack by the Aussies and they were cruising all along before Charles got out. Chris Gayle was in his usual flow hitting balls out of the park and there were no bowlers who did not get a hammering from his bat. Unfortunately he got out when West Indies were looking to set up a target of over 200 and that was when the Aussies capitalized on events and put a brake on the scoring.pat Cummins and Shane Watson was the pick of the bowlers for Australia. Marlon Samuels did put up a good fight towards the end scoring 50 of just 32 balls.
Australia started their innings really well before David Warner was adjudged caught behind by Asad Rauf but that did not slow things down for the Aussies. Shane Watson and Mike Hussey scored almost 10 runs per over and that led to a stormy 100 by the Australians before the real storm set in and play had to be called off. Australia won by 17 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method after the umpires decided that play cannot be resumed.
