Providence Stadium

Providence stadium is located in Providence which is 9 km approximately south of Georgetown. This sports ground has 3 major stands. It also has a grass mound which can accommodate 4,000 spectators. The total capacity of this stadium is 15,000. This ground of Guyana is built to replace The Bourda as national stadium. It was built for cricket World Cup 2007. The total cost of this venue is 30 million US dollars. It is established in the year 2006. It has the facility of floodlights to host day-night matches. The two main ends of this stadium are Pavilion End and Media Center End. The Providence Stadium hosted its initial Test in the year 2008, but it was not a happy-one for the hosts because Sri Lanka won that test by 121 runs. It was built specially to host ‘Super Eight’ matches of 2007 Cricket World-Cup. The Providence hosted 6 matches of the World Cup between 28th of March’07 and 9th of April’07. The most notable match of this ground was between South Africa and Sri Lanka in which Lankan pacer ‘Lasith Malinga’ took 4 wickets in 4 consecutive balls and became first player to make this record in international cricket.
