Lahore Qalandars is a Lahore city-based franchise cricket team in Twenty-20 cricket Pakistan Super League (PSL). Lahore Qalandars are still looking for their first-ever PSL title. Sohail Akhtar is the captain of Lahore Qalandars. Lahore Qalandar team was founded back in PSL 2015 on its inaugural season. Lahore Qalandars plays their home matches at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Fakar Zaman is the leading run-scorer for the team and Shaheen Shah Afridi is the leading wicket-taker.
The Lahore Qalandars franchise was sold to the Qatar Lubricants Company for 25.1 million US dollars for a contract of ten years. The franchise also ran a programme “Jazz Rising Stars” to find local talents across eight Pakistani cities.
Lahore Qalandars invested in quality players like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Azhar Ali etc. in PSL 2016. Despite having such big names in side, the team failed to show quality performance in PSL 2016. They managed to win only two of their eight league games. They finished at bottom position on the points table. Umar Akmal was the only positive for Lahore team. He scored most runs in the tournament in PSL 2016. Lahore Qalandars traded many big players before PSL 2017 but failed to qualify for playoffs. They won only 3 matches out of 8 league games and finished the season at the bottom position. The team performed even worse in PSL 2018. Lahore Qalandars won only 2 league matches in PSL 2018 and finished the PSL 2018 at the bottom position. In PSL 2019, the Lahore Qalandars finished the season at last position. It was very disappointing by such big players to perform extremely poor. PSL 2020 was the best season for Lahore Qalandars. The team was captained by Sohail Akhtar. They won 7 of their 13 league games and qualified for playoffs for the first time ever in PSL history. They finished as runners-up in PSL 2020.
Lahore Qalandars has quality players in side for PSL 2021. Sohail Akhtar, Joe Denly, Mohammad Hafeez, Shaheen Afridi, Rashid Khan and keeper-batsman Ben Dunk are some of the big names in the side.
