Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is one of the most significant cricket stadiums of Pakistan. The stadium was founded in 1992 in Rawalpindi which is at a short distance from Islamabad. At present, the stadium can house 15,000 spectators. Pakistan Cricket Board is the owner of Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and the stadium is operated by Northern Cricket Association. It is the sole perfect international stadium in entire Pakistan.
As the stadium was built a few years before the 1996 World Cup which was held by Pakistan- it served as a major venue for the World Cup matches that year. The stadium had its first Test match on December 9, 1993 and first ODI on January 19, 1992. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium also hosts T20 matches.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is one of the 4 venues of Pakistan Super League and is the home turf of Islamabad United. In the coming PSL season, the stadium will start its innings from the 9th match.
