The 2nd T20 match of the New Zealand vs Australia 2021 series was fought at University Oval, Dunedin on 25 Feb 2021. There were no changes in both teams for the second T20I of 5 matches T20I series 2021 between New Zealand and Australia. Australian captain won the toss and decided to field first. Martin Guptill and Tim Seifert came out to the middle to open and Daniel Sams got the new ball in hand.
New Zealand lost the wicket of Tim Seifert very early at 20 runs only and then Kane Williamson came to join Guptill. Both the batsmen played an awesome inning and built up a crucial first wicket partnership of 131 runs. Martin Guptill missed his century and was dismissed by Daniel Sams in 14.4 overs. He showed his excellent performance with the bat and made 97 runs from 50 balls. Kane Williamson also played a captaincy inning of 53 runs and the unbeaten 45 runs from 16 balls of James Neesham helped the NZ to add 219 runs on the scoreboard. Kane Richardson performed very well with the ball and took 3 wickets of NZ. Australia needed 220 runs to win the second T20 match of NZ vs Aus series 2021.
Matthew Wade and Aaron Finch came on the crease to chase the target and Tim Southee got the responsibility of the new ball. Wade started with some great shots and made 24 runs from 15 balls but could not stay longer and lost his wicket in 3.3 overs. After the end of the mandatory powerplay Australia had made 53 runs at the loss of 1 wicket. Australia completed the first 50 runs in 6.2 overs but then lost Aaron Finch at the score of 70 runs. Afterward, Marcus Stoinis and Josh Philippe tried well to dominate the NZ bowlers but finally, NZ bowlers won the race. Marcus Stoinis made 78 runs from just 37 balls but that was not enough to win the match and Australia lost the match by 4 runs. Mitchell Santner performed very nicely with the ball and took 4 wickets for his team.
New Zealand won the 2nd T20 International match of the NZ vs Aus series by 4 runs and Martin Guptill was named Man of the Match for his match-winning inning.
