Mumbai emerge victorious as Rohit’s romance with Eden continues - The Indian Premiere League after an exciting 1 and a half month came down to the match that mattered. It was a final between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens Kolkata. It seemed that the match was a replay of the final held 2 years ago between same teams in the same venue. Mumbai Indians turned around the game by winning most matches at the end while Chennai were consistent as they can be. After winning the toss in this match Chennai decided to field first.

The 1st over was a dream start for Chennai as they took the 1st wicket of Parthiv Patel in the very first over. This wicket brought Rohit Sharma on crease to bat along with Lendl Simmons. The game started taking a turn from their as Rohit and his romance with the Eden gardens Kolkata continued. He cleared he boundary at will and with ease. He scored 50 runs in 26 balls before losing his wicket. Before going back to the pavilion he provided his team the required momentum. Mumbai were at 120/2 in 12 overs when he lost his wicket. Simmons lost his wicket after scoring 68 runs. Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu were given the task to take the team to the end as they scored 36 runs each. This partnership allowed the Mumbai Indians set a score of 202 runs while bating first. 

The Chennai Super Kings needed a good start to the innings in order to give a fight to Mumbai Indians. The opening pair of Dwayne Smith and Michael Hussey failed in providing the start that the team was looking for. Hussey was stuck in the crease and was unable to get the bowl on his bat. He scored only 4 runs before losing his wicket. Smith and Suresh Raina tried to up the scoring rate but were able to take the team to a score of 88 runs in 12th over. Smith went back to the pavilion in the 12th over scoring 56 runs and this wicket was all what Mumbai was looking forward too. The gates were opened and Mumbai bowlers flooded it. The wickets fell at a constant rate and Chennai were able to score only 161 run in 20 overs at a loss of 8 wickets.

Rohit Sharma was named as the man of the match for providing the momentum at the start as Chennai never looked to make a comeback in the game. Kieron pollard won the yes bank maximum sixes award.
