Shakib’s all-round performance takes Bangladesh to the 2nd victory in the series against Zimbabwe - The 1st test was won by Bangladesh but it was not a convincing victory as they struggled to achieve the required target set by the visitors. Both the team moved to Khulna to play the 2nd test match hoping it to be a high scoring one rather than the one which ended in just 3 days.

After winning the toss Bangladesh team decided to bat first in the match. The top order batsmen provided a good start to the team as Mominul Haque and Tamim Iqbal had a partnership between them which took the team to a score of 78 before Haque lost his wicket after scoring 35 runs. Mahmudullah came in next to fight it out with Iqbal and took batted almost at the end of the day. Just few moments before the day ended Mahmudullah lost his wicket after scoring 56 runs. The team ended the 1st day at a score of 193/3 with Iqbal at a score of 74 and Shakib Al Hassan batting at 13 runs.

The 2nd day was a tough one for the visiting bowlers as the overnight partnership lasted too long. Tamim Iqbal scored 109 runs while Shakib scored 137 runs for the team. These two players took the team to a score of 305 runs when Iqbal lost his wicket and Shakib was back in the pavilion when the team had already reached a score of 376/6. The home team reached a score of 433 in the 1st innings. In reply to the 1st innings the visitors came back strong and ended the 2nd day at 53/1.

The 3rd day was a tough one for the home bowlers as Hamilton Masakadza and Regis Chakabva made sure that the home team didn’t end with a huge lead in the 1st innings. These players batted their heart out and after a bad start ended the day at 331/5 for Zimbabwe with Masakadza at 154 and Chakabva at 75.

The 4th day didn’t start off well for the visitors as they lost all the remaining wickets quite easily and cheaply. Chakabva scored 101 runs while Masakadza scored 158 runs taking the team score to 368 runs. The lower order was unable to provide any resistance to the bowlers and Shakib once again took 5 wickets in the innings. The home team was able to get a good start to the 2nd innings as they scored some good and quick runs. Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah were once again in the centre of batting as they scored 54 and 71 runs respectively. The team ended the day at 201/5.

The 5th day saw the home team extend their lead as Shuvagata Hom scored 50 runs for the team and they ended their 2nd innings at a score of 248 runs. In this process the Zimbabwe team were set a total of 314 runs. Zimbabwe was asked to bat before lunch and they needed to survive two sessions to draw the match. At lunch the team was struggling at 13/2. The problems increased for the team as they lost 3 more wickets and at tea they were at 117/5. Hamilton Masakadza was the lone batsman who found scoring easy and scored 61 runs. After tea the home team came back strong taking rest 5 wickets and thus emerging victorious in the 2nd match. Shakib took 5 wickets once again. For his performance with the bat and the bowl he was named as the man of the match. Bangladesh now led the series 2-0 with 1 match more to go.
