In September 2021, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared that West Indies will come to India to play 3 One Day International bilateral series in February 2022. India vs West Indies ODI series 2022 will begin with the ODI match at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 6 Feb 2022. The second and third One Day International match will be contested on 9 February and 11 February 2022.
Presently Kieron Pollard is the captain of the West Indies team and most probably the team will visit India under his leadership, on the other hand, Virat Kohli may lead the Indian team in the upcoming 3 ODI India vs West Indies series 2022. Kieron Pollard is at the 91st position in ICC ODI player ranking and Virat Kohli is at the number 2 position. There is a big difference between both the captain’s ranks but India will not take them unchallenging and want to capture the series.
West Indies played its first-ever ODI match against England at Headingley, Leeds on 5 September 1973. They have also won the ODI World Cup 2 times in1975 and 1979. Indian team has also lifted the ODI World Cup twice in 1983 and 2011. Both the teams played their last ODI against each other at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on 22 December 2019. Team India won that match by 4 wickets while chasing the big target of 316 runs, and Virat Kohli was the Man of the Match.
Currently, India is sitting at the number 4 position in the ICC ODI team ranking and West Indies is positioned at number 8. As of Oct 2021, India and West Indies have played 131 ODI matches against each other in which both the team won 63 matches each, so their winning percentage is the same and it is difficult to conclude which side will rule over the other. After the T20 World Cup craze, it would be interesting to watch how West Indies will perform in ODI in India.
