The governing body of India, BCCI has officially declared their plans for the tour of England in the month of July 2022 to play 3 ODI matches bilateral series against England. The Eng vs Ind ODI series 2022 will be an integral component of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-2023 which is running from 2020 to 2023. The England vs India ODI series 2022 will commence with the first one day international at The Oval, London on 12 July 2022, then the second match will be held at Lord’s London on 14 July 2022, and finally, both the teams will travel to Manchester for the last ODI on 17 July 2022.
After the completion of the T20I Men’s World Cup, Virat Kohli left his captaincy from the limited over games and Rohit Sharma was announced as a new captain of India. So, the team will travel to England under the leadership of Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma with their new coach Rahul Dravid. On the other hand, Eoin Morgan will lead the English team for the ODI series against India in the month of July 2022.
In terms of ICC ranking, India currently stands at the number 4 position whereas England is at the number 2 position. Both the teams have lots of capability to beat each other so it will be unfair to compare their ranking because India has players like Virat, Rohit who are currently at number 2 and 3 positions in ICC ODI Player ranking.
It would be interesting to know that India played their first ODI against England at Headingley, Leeds; 13 July 1974. Since 1974 both the teams have fought with each other in 103 ODI matches where India seems to be dominated over England with the winning percentage of 56 as India has registered victory in 55 matches and England got the victory in 43 matches only.
Overall, the Indian team has played 997 ODI in which they 518 matches and lost 249, with 9 ties and 41 concluded without any result whereas the English team has taken part in 761 ODIs out of which they successfully won in 384 matches, lost 339 with 9 ties and 29 without any outcomes. So, the two rivals of over 50 years in One Day Internationals will face each other in the month of July 2022 and it will be exciting to watch how Men in Blue will perform at the England surfaces.
