The 2 match Test series was played between India and New Zealand in February 2020 in New Zealand. The 1st match of the series was played on February 21, Friday, at Wellington. Virat Kohli was the Skipper of Indian team, and Kane Williamson was the captain of New Zealand team. New Zealand captain won the toss and decided to field first. Indian openers failed to give a good start to the team and scored just 16 runs for 1st wicket. Indian batting collapsed badly in overseas conditions and could make a total of 165 runs only in 1st inning. Mayank Aggarwal scored 34 runs. Captain Kohli failed to play good inning and got out on just 2 runs. Ajinkya Rahane scored the most 46 runs for Indian side in 1st innings. T. Southee and debutant K. Jamieson took the most 4 wickets each for New Zealand team.
In 1st Inning, New Zealand openers also failed to give an excellent start to the team, but Kiwi skipper Williamson played a beautiful inning of 89 runs. Ross Taylor also scored 44 runs. Jamieson also showed his batting class and scored 44 runs while bowler Boult scored 38 runs and helped New Zealand to score 348 runs. Ishant Sharma took 5 wickets for India. New Zealand took a big lead of 183 runs and put Indian side under pressure. Indian team could make only 191 runs in 2nd inning and gave a target of just 9 runs to Kiwi players. Mayank Aggarwal scored a half-century in 2nd inning and scored the most 58 runs. Southee took 5 wickets in 2nd inning while Boult took 4. New Zealand batsmen easily chased the target and won the match by 10 wickets. Southee was player of the match in 1st test.
The 2nd test match of the series was held on February 29, Saturday, at Hagley Oval. New Zealand captain again won the toss and elected to field first. On batting first, Indian openers made 30 runs opening partnership. M. Aggarwal dismissed early of the inning on just 7 runs. But P Shaw and C Pujara scored 50 runs partnership for 2nd wicket. Prithvi Shaw played brilliant, fearless inning and scored 54 runs while Cheteshwar Pujara also scored 54 runs. Captain Kohli failed again in the series to perform and got out early on just 3 runs. It was a very disappointing performance by the Indian captain. Hanuma Vihari scored the most 55 runs for Indian team, and India scored 242 runs in their 1st inning. K Jamieson took most 5 wickets for New Zealand team while Boult and Southee took 2 wickets each. New Zealand team scored 235 runs in 1st inning. Jamieson scored 49 runs, and India took 7 runs lead. But New Zealand bowler performed well in 2nd innings and dismissed Indian batsmen on just 124 runs. It was a target of only 132 runs for Kiwi. Kiwi players chased the target easily and won the match by 7 wickets.
Jamieson was declared as the player of the match while T. Southee was selected as the player of the series.
