Gayle Storm disrupts the South Africans in the 1st T20 - After the test series South Africa hosted West Indies for a 3 match T20 series. The 1st match of the series was played in the Newlands stadium situated in the city of Cape Town. Here the South Africans won the toss and decided to bat first.
Batting first the opening pair of Reeza Hendricks and Morne van Wyk gave a steady start scoring 30 runs in 4.2 overs. Hendricks was the first one to leave after scoring only 12 runs. Soon the next over Morne van Wyk too followed back to the pavilion scoring only 17 runs. The fall of two wickets brought West Indies back in the match. Faf du Plessis and Rilee Rossouw together etched a partnership that helped the team to gain back the momentum as both the batsmen took the team to a score of 79 in 10 overs. Faf lost his wicket scoring 38 runs which brought David Miller who along with Rossouw took the team to a total of 165 in the end of 20 overs. Rossouw score 51 runs and remained not out on the other hand Miller scored 24 runs before losing his wicket.
The West Indians started off well and the credit for it went to the dangerous Chris Gayle as he scored 77 runs off 31 balls. It was a mammoth of an innings which made the bowlers run for cover. The opening pair of Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle scored 78 runs out which Smith scored 20 runs and lost his wicket. Gayle after scoring 77 runs lost his wicket in the 11th over leaving his team at 114/2. It was a cake walk for the team to win the match but the bowlers made it difficult for the batsmen as they took wickets regularly. At the end the West Indians were able to reach the required score with 4 balls remaining. With this win they now lead the series 1-0. Gayle was rightly named as the man of the match for his outstanding innings.
