In the T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka has faced situations where their top order batters struggled and lost their wickets so early and then the player at the 9th position got the chance to bat. The player at the number 9th position is generally not a skilled batter but he tried to handle the situation by supporting his partner and thus made 8th wicket partnership in the T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka.

The pair of Jehan Mubarak and Chaminda Vaas stands at the top position for making the highest 8th wicket partnership in the T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka. In the 22nd match against Australia in 2007, Sri Lanka got the chance to bat first but they did not get a good start and their batters struggled a lot. Anyhow, they reached the score of 101 in which Mubarak and Vaas added crucial 40 runs in a pair for the 8th wicket but Sri Lanka could not save the match.

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Chaminda Vaas (35 Runs In 2007)

The combination of Tillakaratne Dilshan and Chaminda Vaas is listed at the 2nd position for making a record 8th wicket partnership in the T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka. Pakistan and Sri Lanka faced each other in the 16th match of the T20 World Cup 2007, where Sri Lanka got the target of 190 runs but their batters could not perform well and made only 156 in which Dilshan and Vaas added 35 runs in a pair for the 8th wicket. Thus, Sri Lanka lost the match by 33 runs.

Nuwan Kulasekara and Lasith Malinga (27 Runs in 2012)

The duo of Nuwan Kulasekara and Lasith Malinga is placed at the 3rd position for creating a record 8th wicket partnership in the T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka. In the final competition of the T20 World Cup 2012, Sri Lanka faced the West Indies where the West Indies gave a target of 138 runs to Sri Lanka. The target was not so big and it was achievable but Lankan batters could not stay longer on the pitch and bowled out at 101. Kulasekara and Malinga tried to catch the match and added 27 runs in a pair for the 8th wicket but did not get it.

Thisara Perera and Sachithra Senanayake (24 Runs in 2014)

The pair of Thisara Perera and Sachithra Senanayake is sitting at the 4th position for hitting a record 8th wicket partnership in the T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka faced New Zealand in the 30th match in 2014, where Sri Lanka added 119 runs on the scoreboard in which Perera and Senanayake contributed 24 runs for the 8th wicket. In reply, the New Zealand batsman could not stay longer and the entire squad was bowled out at 60. 

Rangana Herath and Dasun Shanaka (13 Runs in 2016)

The pair of Rangana Herath and Dasun Shanaka stands at the 5th position for adding a record 8th wicket partnership in the T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka. In the 32nd match of the T20 World Cup 2016 against South Africa, Sri Lanka set a target of 121 runs for SA in which Herath and Shanaka added 13 runs in a pair for the 8th wicket, the target was small so it was easily achieved by African batters in 17.4 overs.
