He achieved this feat in just 74 balls while playing against Sri Lanka in Kanpur in 1986. During Sri Lanka’s tour to India, both teams faced each other for the 1st test where Sri Lanka added 420 runs in the 1st innings, and in response, India added a total of 676 for 9 in which Kapil Dev scored 163 runs in 165 balls including the fastest century record for India.
2. Mohammad Azharuddin
The former Indian skipper, Mohammad Azharuddin is sitting in 2nd place for contributing the fastest 100 in Test cricket for India. He made this major effort in just 74 balls while performing against South Africa in Calcutta in 1996. South Africa came to India for a Test series, both teams faced each other in the 2nd test at Eden Garden Stadium. South Africa made 428 runs in the first while batting first and India replied by adding 329 runs. Azharuddin in that innings played nicely and added crucial 109 runs that helped them to reach 300+ but ultimately India lost that match by 329 runs.
3. Virendra Sehwag
Virendra Sehwag, the former Indian cricketer holds the 3rd position for adding the fastest hundred in a Test for India. He made this incredible effort in 78 balls while performing against West Indies at Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet in 2006. India went to the West Indies in 2006 to play a Test series where both nations met for the 2nd test. India batted first and added 588 for 8 in the first inning in which Sehwag contributed 180 runs along with his career fastest century in test.
4. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan stands at number 4th place for contributing the quickest century in the Test for India. He achieved this feat in 85 balls while facing Australian bowlers at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali in 2013. Australia came to India for a test series where both nations played the 3rd Test in Mohali. Australia batted first and added 408 in the first innings and then in reply, Dhawan played nicely for India and added 187 from 174 balls. India won that match and Dhawan was named Man of the Match.
5. Kapil Dev
Kapil Dev holds the 5th position in the list of records for the fastest century in the Test for India. He made this effort in 86 balls while playing against England when England came to India for a Test series in 1982. The 6th Test between both nations was held in Kanpur where Kapil Dev 116 runs from 98 balls in the first innings while replying to England’s 378 total and he also became the Man of the Series.
