Fastest Century in BPL

The Bangladesh Cricket Board launched the Bangladesh Premier League, a T20 cricket league, in 2012. The most decorated squad, Comilla Victorians, has won the BPL championship four times. Batters from all around the globe have struck 29 centuries in BPL since 2012. Cricket lovers have witnessed several instances when batters struck the quickest century in BPL.

So, let's examine some of the players who scored the quickest centuries in BPL in more detail:

1. Ahmed Shehzad

Ahmed Shehzad, a batter of Barisal Burners holds the first position in making the fastest century in BPL. He achieved this feat in 40 balls only while playing against Duronto Rajshahi at Mirpur in the inaugural season of BPL in 2012. The first semi-final competition of the league was played between Barisal Burners and Duronto Rajshahi on February 28. Barisal Burners invited its opponent to bat first after winning the toss and Duronto Rajshahi added 184 on the scoreboard. In reply, Barisal Burners got an outstanding start as its opener Ahmed Shehzad struck unbeaten 113 runs from just 49 balls that assisted them to achieve the target very easily in 16 overs. After winning the match, Ahmed Shehzad was named Man of the Match. 

2. Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle, who played for the Barisal Burners, is sitting in the 2nd position for hitting the fastest century in BPL. He made this feat in 44 balls while playing against Sylhet Royals at Mirpur in the inaugural season of BPL. It was the first match of the BPL 2012 where Barisal Burners and Sylhet Royals were facing each other at Mirpur. Barisal Burners won the toss and invited the opponent to bat first. While batting first, the Royals gave a target of 166 runs to Barisal Burners. In reply, Chris Gayle who came out as an opener to chase the target, played incredibly and added a century from 44 balls while remaining not out. Gayle’s hundred helped them to achieve the target in 13.1 overs only and thus won the match by 10 wickets. Gayle was named Man of the Match for his match-winning innings.

3. Iftikhar Ahmed

Iftikhar Ahmed, a batter of Fortune Barisal is standing in the 3rd position for hitting the fastest century in BPL. He achieved this feat in just 45 balls while playing against Rangpur Riders at Chattogram in the 2023 season of BPL. Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders met each other for the 18th encounter of BPL 2023 in Chattogram. Rangpur Riders decided to chase the target after winning the toss. When Fortune Basishal came out to bat, they got a bad start as they lost 4 wickets at 46 but then Iftikhar Ahmed handled the situation and changed the momentum of the game by hitting the quick 100 runs from 45 balls that helped them to reach 239. In reply, Rangpur Riders could not perform well and lost the match by 67 runs. Iftikhar Ahmed was named Man of the Match and Most Valuable Player in that game. 

4. Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle, a batter of Rangpur Riders holds the 4th position in the list for making the fastest century in BPL. He achieved this feat in 46 balls while playing against Khulna Titans at Mirpur in BPL 2017. In the elimination match between Khulna and Rangpur, Rangpur decided to chase the target after winning the toss and thus Khulna added a total of 167 runs on the scoreboard. In reply, Rangpur lost their 2 wickets so early but Gayle on the other hand did not stop and struck 126 from 51 balls that helped them to reach the total in 15.2 overs only and won the match. Chris Gayle was named Man of the Match in that game. 

5. Evin Lewis

Evin Lewis, a batter of Comilla Victorians is placed at the number 5th position for making the fastest hundred in BPL. He achieved this feat in just 46 balls while performing against Khulna Titans at Chattogram in BPL 2019. The 33rd match of the BPL 2019 was played between Comilla Victorians and Khulna Titans. While batting first, Comilla Victorians added a total of 237 runs on the scoreboard because of Evin Lewis's excellent effort of 109 runs off 49 balls. In reply, Khulna Titans could not handle the pressure and the entire squad bowled out at 157 only. Thus Comilla Victorians won the match by 80 runs and Even Lewis was named Man of the Match.
