Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders, formerly the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, is one of the most loved CPL teams. This team has always been one of the strongest participants in the Caribbean Premier League since its inception. The Port of Spain, Trinidad, and Tobago based team was created back in tournament's inaugural season in 2013. The team has good, experienced players. Under the captaincy of Kieron Pollard, Trinbago Knight Riders has always shown a commendable performance, winning the tournament thrice.

Trinbago Knight Riders also holds the record of appearing in playoffs in each season of the tournament. From the very first season, the team showed the potential to win the championship. Trinbago Knight Riders has consistently maintained a dominant position on the point table in each CPL edition. Trinbago Knight Riders is the most successful CPL team by winning 3 CPL season.

At present, Brendon McCullum is head coach, and Kieron Pollard is the captain of the team.

Home Venue

Trinbago Knight Riders plays their home matches at Queen's Park Oval and Brian Lara Cricket Academy. They have a very good winning record at home. The ground has a huge capacity of 20,000 spectators, and favours the batsmen to play big shots. 

Team Owner

In 2015, Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Mehta Group (Bollywood famous Juhi Chawla and her husband businessman Jay Mehta) had purchased a stake in Trinabgo Knight Riders. They had also owned IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.

Dwayne Bravo captained the team in 6 seasons of CPL. Bravo was the leader of the team till the 2018 CPL season. He won 3 titles for the team. Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard is the current captain of Trinbago Knight Riders. He is an explosive batsman from West Indies, and loves to hit big sixes. He is an excellent leader and has all abilities, which are required in a good leader. He plays the role of a finisher in Trinbago Knight Riders. He is looking forward to get the 4^th CPL title to Trinbago Knight Riders.

Past Performances Year Wise

CPL 2013

Dwayne Bravo had captained the Trinbago Knight Riders for their maiden CPL season. Guyana Amazon Warriors had defeated the team in their first CPL match. Unfortunately, the team did not get a good tournament start and had lost their first 3 matches. The team had bounced back against Guyana Amazon Warriors in their 4^th match and won their first-ever CPL game by 3 runs. Trinbago Knight Riders had finished the group stage at 4^th position and won 3 matches out of 7. The team had played against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the semi-final match. It was a low scoring game, but in the end, GAW had won the match and reached the final of maiden CPL season. Trinbago Knight Riders had finished at 4^th position in CPL 2013.

CPL 2014

Dwayne Bravo had maintained his position of team skipper and kicked off the season with 7 wickets easy win. Trinbago Knight Riders had played a thriller super over match in 2^nd group stage match against Guyana Amazon Warriors. Both the teams had scored equal runs in their innings, and a one-over eliminator had decided the match. Guyana Amazon Warriors had won the one-over eliminator and gained 2 points on the point table. Trinbago Knight Riders had finished the group stage at 3^rd position and qualified for the semi-final. Trinbago Knight Riders had won 6 matches out of 9 and played the semi-final against Guyana Amazon Warriors. Guyana Amazon Warriors again defeated Trinbago Knight Riders like back in CPL 2013. The team had finished the 2014 season with 3^rd position.

CPL 2015

In CPL 2015, (Red Chillies Entertainment) Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Jay Mehta (Mehta Group), the owners of team Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL purchased a stake in Trinbago Knight Riders. Trinbago Knight Riders had kicked off the 2015 season with maintaining Dwayne Bravo as captain. The 2015 CPL season had always been extremely special for Trinbago Knight Riders as the season got the team their first-ever CPL win. The first match of the Trinbago Knight Riders was interrupted by rain. Trinbago Knight Riders had finished the group stage at 3^rd position. They had won 5 matches out of 10. Finally, they had defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors at the semi-final and reached their first CPL final. The final was played between Barbados Tridents and Trinbago Knight Riders. Trinbago Knight Riders had scored good runs in 1^st innings and defended the target quite easily. Pakistan batsman Kamran Akmal had scored 60 runs in the night of final for Trinbago Knight Riders. They won the game by 20 runs and won their first CPL championship. Dwayne Bravo was selected as player of the tournament. He had also taken most wickets (20) in this season. Bravo and the boys had played the entire season like a fighter and finally won their first championship.

CPL 2016

The defending champions of 2016 had failed to begin the tournament with a win. The team was lead by Dwayne Bravo. It was his 4^th season as a captain of Trinbago Knight Riders. Trinbago Knight Riders had finished the league stage at 4^th position and qualified for eliminator match against St. Lucia Stars. Trinabago Knight Riders had won the eliminator match by 5 wickets and qualified for qualifier 2. Trinbago Knight Riders were defeated by Jamaica Tallawahs, and they had to finish the season at 3^rd position. Later on, Jamaica Tallawahs had won the season. Dwayne Bravo had taken the most Wickets (21) in this season. Hashim Amla had scored the most runs (410) for Trinbago Knight Riders with an average of 37.27.

CPL 2017

In CPL 2017, Trinbago Knight Riders had shown trust in their senior players and began the championship with an extraordinary 9 wickets win against St. Lucia Zouks. Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro had made a partnership of not out 132 runs. They had carried the winning momentum throughout the league and won 8 matches out of 10 and topped the table. They had played their qualifier match against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. They had defeated St Kitts and reached their 2^nd finale of CPL. Trinbago Knight Riders had again clashed with St Kitts in the night of final. It was a good game of cricket. Both teams were desperate to win the title. But Trinbago Knight Riders had won the game by 3 wickets and won their 2^nd CPL title. Dwayne Bravo had taken most wickets (16) for Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2017.

CPL 2018

The defending champions of 2018 CPL were also the winning champions of 2018 CPL. They had begun the 2018 season by adding some aggressive T20 players in their side. The team had played their 1^st game of the season against St Lucia Zouks. Colin Munro had shown why he is one of the best T20 batsmen. He had smashed brilliant 68 runs while wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Ramdeen made brilliant half-century in 27 balls. Trinbago Knight Riders had given a huge target of 196 runs while St. Lucia Zouks got all out on just 95 runs. Trinbago Knight Riders had won the game by 100 runs and kicked off the season like champions. They had won 7 games out of 10 in the league stage and topped the table. In qualifier 1, the team was defeated by Guyana Amazon Warriors. Trinbago Knight Riders had clashed against St Kitts in qualifier 2. It was a good high scoring game. Trinbago Knight Riders had won the game by 20 runs and reached their 3^rd CPL final. The final was played between Trinbago Knight Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors. Trinbago Knight Riders’ Khary Pierre had bowled brilliant spell and had taken 3 wickets. Guyana Amazon Warriors only made a total of 147 runs, and Trinbago chased the target easily in 18^th over and won the final by 7 wickets. They had won their 3^rd CPL title. Khary Pierre was selected as the player of the match in the final. Colin Munro had scored the most runs (567) in CPL 2018, and he was also the player of the tournament. 

CPL 2019

Trinbago Knight Riders had played very good cricket throughout the series in CPL 2019. Trinbago Knight Riders had added Kieron Pollard in their squad and made him captain. It was the first time in CPL that Dwayne Bravo was not the captain for Trinbago Knight Riders. Kieron pollard had guided the team, and the team had reached playoffs matches. They had won eliminator match against St. Kitts but had lost qualifier 2 against Barbados Tridents and finished the CPL 2019 at 3^rd position.

CPL 2020

In the latest edition of Caribbean Premier League which is CPL 2020, Trinbago Knight Riders were led by Kerion Pollard. They played 10 League Stage matches, and they won all the matches and thus gained 20 points to qualify for the Playoffs. Trinbago Knight Riders won the Semi-Final match and the Final match to be crowned as the champions of  CPL 2020. Lendl Simmons was the highest run-scorer for Trinbago Knight Riders, and of the Tournament also, he made 356 runs with an average of 39.55 at the strike rate of 122.33 in 11 innings. The highest score made by Lendl Simmons in the whole Tournament was 96 runs against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

The highest wicket-taker of Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2020 was Fawad Ahmed as he took 13 wickets in 11 innings with an average of 18.15 at a bowling economy of 6.55. His best bowling spell was 4 wickets by giving 21 runs in 4 overs, against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. Brendon McCullum was the coach of Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2020.
