Sri Lankan batting line-up dominate that of England - The 22nd match of the world cup 2015 saw England fight it out against Sri Lanka in a Pool A match. The English side has been struggling in the tournament and had a poor start to the tournament. On the other hand Sri Lankans too had a bad start but they gained momentum as the games passed. In this match England were looking to make a comeback but Sri Lankans were looking to make a strong position in the game. England after winning the toss decided to bat first.

English openers made a good start but soon two quick wickets dismissed their good start as Moeen Ali after scoring 15 runs lost his wicket followed by Gary Balance lost his wicket after scoring only 6 runs. Ian Bell too after scoring 49 runs lost his wicket in the 21st over leaving the team at a score of 101 runs. The English team was once again in trouble but the middle order came together Joe Root and Eoin Morgan scored some important runs for the team. Root scored 121 runs in the innings and was responsible in taking the team to a score of 309 runs in 50 overs. Jos Buttler was also one of the players who were responsible in taking the team to the score as he scored 39 runs in 19 balls.

The Sri Lankans needed a good start to chase the required score as Lahiru Thirimanne and Tillakaratne Dilshan together scored 100 runs for the 1st wicket. Dilshan lost his wicket in the 19th over of the game after scoring 44 runs. Thirimane moved forward to score 139 runs for the team and was unbeaten while Kumar Sangakkara scored 117 runs to take the team cross the required runs. The Sri Lankans went past the required score and registered a win in the game. Kumar Sangakkara was named as the man of the match.
