The fifth match of
2008 IPL T20 was contested in between the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore teams. This game was engaged at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and was a day night version of the Twenty20 series. The toss was won by the Mumbai Indians. They decided to bat first under the captaincy of Harbhajan Singh. Luke Ronchi and Sanath Jayasuriya opened the batting line for MI. The scoreboard starting ticking up by Jayasuriya's batting. After Ronchi got caught by Kohli and Dominic Thornely was retired hurt, Robin Uthappa took the lead and put up another 48 runs in 38 balls. With 11 extra runs, the total score of Mumbai Indians came to 165 runs with the fall of 6 wickets. Jacques Kallis bowled 3 overs and gave away 43 runs and was very expensive at a Economy rate of 14.33. He was followed by Vinay Kumar who gave 41 runs at 10.25 economy rate.
The Royal Challengers started their batting with a good contribution from all of the batsmen. Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Rahul Dravid came in first and gave a steady growth to the chase of 166 runs. Then followed Ross Taylor who contributed another 23 runs in 12 balls. Mark Boucher gave the best after Taylor with a strike rate of 164.28. Shaun Pollock had given the lowest economy by giving just 17 runs in 4 overs. But Ashish Nehra and Abhishek Nayar took the beating from the RCH batsmen by giving away runs at economy rates of 11.25 and 10 respectively.
Royal Challengers won the match in 19.4 overs at the expense of 5 wickets. RCB earned 2 points with their clear victory and Mark Boucher earned the Man of the Match award.
