The second T20 match of the PSL 2021 was fought between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi at National Stadium, Karachi on 21 Feb 2021. Lahore Qalandars won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Imam-ul-Haq and Kamran Akmal were sent to the middle to open for Peshawar. Shaheen Shah Afridi got the new ball to open the attack.
Lahore’s bowlers did an excellent job and had dismissed 3 wickets of Peshawar at the end of the first mandatory Powerplay. Peshawar Zalmi’s top order had completely failed and came under pressure. Then Ravi Bopara in the middle order tried to handle the situation and contributed crucial 50 runs for his team. Shaheen Shah Afridi performed very well with the ball and took 3 important wickets of Peshawar as a result of which Zalmi could make 140 runs at the end of the 20 overs. The Qalandars needed only 141 runs to win from 120 balls to win the match.
Fakhar Zaman and Sohail Akhtar, the captain himself, came out to the middle to chase the target. Wahab Riaz got the new ball in hand to open the attack. Lahore also struggled at the beginning and lost some early wickets. After the end of the Powerplay, Lahore had made 38 runs at the loss of 2 wickets. Wahab Riaz and Saqib Mahmood bowled well and got 2 wickets each but could not stop the Qalandars to achieve the target. Some small partnerships of Lahore’s batsmen helped to get the target comfortably at 18.3 overs.
Lahore Qalandars won the 2nd T20 match of Pakistan Super League 2021 by 4 wickets. Shaheen Shah Afridi was named Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
