The 1st match of the CPL 2020 was played between Trinbago Knight Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 18, Tuesday at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. Trinbago Knight Riders won the toss and decided to field first. The match was reduced to 17 overs due to bad weather conditions.
Guyana Amazon openers failed to give good start to team and the team lost both the openers on just 23. Shimron Hetmyer played good and aggressive cricket and made not out 63 runs on just 44 balls. His inning helped team to get a good total of 144 runs. Ross Taylor also scored 33 runs. Sunil Narine showed brilliant control in his bowling and took 2 wickets by giving only 19 runs in his 4 over. It was a target of 145 runs in their 17 over for Trinbago Knight Riders.
Sunil Narine opened the inning for Trinbago Knight Riders and made brilliant 50 runs on just 28 balls. Darren Bravo also played beautiful inning of 30 runs and controlled the required run rate which balanced the innings of Trinbago Knight Riders. With good depth in batting, Trinbago Knight Riders won the game by 4 wickets. The team chased the target easily by having 2 balls to spare.
Trinbago Knight Riders won their first game of CPL 2020 while on the other hand Guyana Warriors has to face defeat. Sunil Narine was selected as player of the match for his brilliant performance in the match. He took 2 wickets and also scored a match winning half century. Guyana Warriors captain Chris Green disappointed by bowling efforts of his team. They gave too many runs in extras. They bowled 11 wide balls in their innings, which became a crucial reason in the end that they finished the match on losing side. Naveen-ul-Haq bowled good deliveries for Guyana Warriors and took 2 wickets.
