Hurricanes confirm semi-final spot after a win against Tridents - The 16th Oppo Champions League T20 2014 was played between Barbados Tridents and Hobart Hurricanes. This match was one of the important matches of Group B as Tridents needed to win it to stay alive in the tournament while a win for the Hurricanes would have meant a semi-final spot in the tournament. Hurricanes after winning the toss decided to field first in Mohali.

While batting first the opening pair of the team remained a problem. They lost 3 wickets in the opening 6 overs of the match. This was a bad start considering for this important fixture. The team was suffering at 26/3 in 5 overs of the game. In the 10th over the problems increased for the team as they lost a well set batsman in the form of James Franklin at a score of 48. He scored only 12 runs in 13 balls. Jason Holder too was unable to stay on the crease for a long time. Rest of the team was unable to stay long. The team in 16.3 overs lost 8 wickets at the score of 101. The 8th wicket of the team was of Jonathan Carter and he lost his wicket after scoring 42 runs. The team was bowled out at 113 runs. Xavier Doherty was the best bowler as he took 4 wickets in the match.

Hobart Hurricanes performed their best with the bowling and all they needed was a good stable batting performance. The team lost 2 wickets in just 6.1 overs. They had a slow start to their innings but it was the class of Shoaib Malik which managed to help them chase the runs easily. The team reached the required runs in 18.2 overs where Malik scored 39 runs. Akeal Hosein was the best bowler as he took 2 wickets in the match.

With this win the Hobart Hurricanes became the 2nd team from their group to reach to the semi-finals of the tournament. Xavier Doherty was named as the Oppo man of the match. Jonathan Carter on the other hand won Suzuki Gixxer Power Player award for hitting most sixes in the match. They both won USD 2500 as prize money.
