As a left arm spinner Doherty was put into the Australian team with his best of wickets on his debut against Sri Lanka. This performance by him was so notable and made him the Slow bowler of first choice. The youngest player to play for Australia in Ashes but he couldn’t expose himself in that series and his worst run continued in Series against India too. In the shortest form of Cricket where his performance was so good in the team but his back injury kept him away from the World cup on the Subcontinent and the team too suffered the loss of a good spinner for the Indian conditions. Big things were expected from this young lad when he Feautered his team during U-19 during 2001-02. And he proved the team that he will not disappoint the expectations of the team . For Australian’s Tasmania is the favorite team to play for and he too got the chance for that. For the local team he got a good track record accumulated 53 wickets in just 3 seasons from 2009 to 2012 with an average of 26.54 which was so good to make the Tasmania as a winning side for the locals. His solid performance in all the formats earned him Ricky Ponting medal as a Tasmanian player it was to honor his performance in the Cricket.
