Hobart Hurricanes wins the match convincingly against Northern Knights - The 9th match of the Oppo Champions League T20 for the year 2014 was played between two arch rival teams. It was a match between Australia team Hobart Hurricanes and the team from New Zealand the Northern Districts. Before this match the Northern Districts were crowd favourites to win this match. It was played in the city of Raipur and was a familiar ground to the districts. After winning the toss the Northern Districts decided to field first.

Batting first the Hurricanes lost their opener Ben Dunk early. He scored only 12 runs and lost his wicket in the 6th over. The team too had a slow start as they managed to score only 21 runs. Tim Paine and in form batsmen Aiden Blizzard made the most of the opportunity and played well for the team. They together took their team to a total of 68 runs in 11 overs. During the process Paine lost his wicket scoring 43 runs in 34 balls. In his innings he scored 1 six and 6 fours. Later Shoaib Malik joined Blizzard and they together made sure that the team reached a good position. They together took the team to a score of 178 runs at the end of 20 overs. Blizzard scored 62 runs while Malik scored an unbeaten 45 runs in 22 balls.

It was a challenging score to chase and the Districts had the openers to fire at the top. For the first time in this year’s champions league T20 the Northern Districts failed in batting as they lost the first 4 wickets at a score of 19 in 6.4 overs. After this start it was tough for them to recover. Scott Styris played a knock of 37 runs in 27 balls and was the highest scorer. Tim Southee too made an effort scoring 21 runs of 12 balls but it was of no use as the team lost their entire wicket at a score of 92 runs. Ben Hilfenhaus was the best bowler for the Hurricanes as he took 3 wickets in the match giving away runs at an economy of 3.5.

For his effort with the ball Hilfenhaus won the Oppo man of the match award. He received a cash prize of USD 2500. Shoaib Malik won Suzuki Gixxer Power player award of USD 2500 for hitting the maximum number of sixes in the match. With this win the Hobart Hurricanes earned 4 points in the league.
