The cricket governing authority of the Indian team has issued the updated itinerary of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. The bilateral 3 T20I matches series between India and Sri Lanka will commence from 24 February 2022 and will come to an end on 27 February 2022. All three matches of the series will be conducted on the 2 different stadiums, one of which is located in Lucknow and the other is in Dharamsala. The first match of Ind vs SL T20I series 2022 will be played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on 24 Feb then second and third match will be conducted on 26 and 27 Feb at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala.
Rohit Sharma will lead the team along with their head coach Rahul Dravid and Dasun Shanaka will take command of the Sri Lanka T20 squad under the guidance of head coach Rumesh Ratnayake. In terms of numbers, India is listed at the 2nd position in the T20I ICC ranking whereas Sri Lanka is sitting at the 9th position which proves India is in very good form as compared to Sri Lanka.
This series will be the last series for the Sri Lankan fast bowler Suranga Lakmal as he has already declared that he will retire after this tour.
In terms of head-to-head T20I matches, the Sri Lankan team does not have a good record as they have won only 7 matches out of 22 T20i against India and India got the victory in the 14 matches. These numbers show that India has ruled over Sri Lanka in the T20I matches with a better winning rate.
Overall, Sri Lanka has appeared in the 148 T20 international matches where they could win only 67 matches and lost 77 matches, also the performance of the players is not up to the level since past some years and that is why they are at the number 9th position in ICC ranking. On the other hand, the Indian team got the victory in the 95 T20i matches out of 153 and lost 51 only with a winning percentage of over 64. So, it would be interesting to watch how the Sri Lankan players would perform on the Indian surface. Will Sri Lanka fight to survive or stand for the series victory?
