Perera takes his team to a victory to keep them alive - After the 1st loss in the ODI series Sri Lankan team wanted to make a comeback to keep their hopes alive in the series. The 2nd match of the series was played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International cricket stadium. Sri Lanka after winning the toss in this must win tie decided to bat first. The top order batsmen didn’t provide a good start to the team as wickets fell early and by the end of 11th over the team was standing at 62/3. The three wickets that fell included the wickets of Tilakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga and Kumar Sangakkara. A good partnership between the veteran Mahela Jayawardene and young Angelo Mathews revived the innings. They together had a 122 runs partnership in between themselves. Mahela Jayawardene scored 67 runs and got out in 34th over leaving his team at a score of 184/4. Son the team seemed to lose the path as they lost 2 more wickets. Later Thisara Perera and Mathews together took the team to a score of 310 in 50 overs. Mathews scored 93 runs while Perera scored 65 runs. Wahab Riaz took 4 wickets in the innings.

Sri Lanka scored big while bating 1st but the tough task was to defend the score. The Pakistan team lost the 1st wicket in the 4th over but Ahed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez together took his team to a score of 114 in just 18th over. Hafeez after scoring 62 runs lost his wicket. Soon the team lost their way as they reached the score of 147/4. Misbah-ul-Haqq and Fawad Alam together built a partnership but that was not enough. All the other players lost their way again wickets fell again. Form 202/6 the team ended up at 233/10. Thus the home side was successful in saving the game and still remains alive in the 3 match ODI series. Thisara Perera won the man of the match award as he batted brilliantly and later took 3 wickets too. The series now stands up at 1-1.
