Amazon Warriors wins in the match in the super over
- The Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel and Guyana Amazon Warriors came face to face against each other in the 5th match of the tournament. Both the teams were victorious in their first match of the tournament and were here fighting for their second. The Amazon Warriors won the toss and decided to field first. The Red Steel’s lost 3 wickets in the first 6 overs managing to score only 26 runs. The wickets kept falling for the home side as the team lost 5 wickets scoring only 64 runs. It was Evin Lewis the opener who kept standing tall. He scored 39 runs and was the highest scorer in the innings. Nicolas Pooran and Kevin O’Brien later managed to fight it out and took their team to a score 118 in 20 overs. Mohammad Hafeez was the
best bowler
for his team taking 1 wicket by giving away 11 runs in just 4 overs.
Lendl Simmons took Warriors to a flying start. He scored 32 runs in just 25 balls. He was a player who kept scoring runs while the wickets from the other end kept tumbling. Simmons was the 6thwicket to fall in the 10th over of the game. At the score of 56 the 6th wicket fell and the team was moving towards a loss. Later Christopher Barnwell and Sunil Narine fought with the bat hard. Barnwell scored 37 runs while Narine scored 16 runs. The match ended up dramatically as the Amazon Warriors too scored 118 runs in just 20 overs. Thus it resulted into a draw which now requires a super over to decide the result. Samuel Badree was the best bowler taking 3 wickets giving away only 18 runs. The super over saw the Warriors bat first. Jimmy Neesham and Christopher Barnwell were the two batsmen for the warriors. The first ball six from Barnwell raised some great hopes for the team but the Red Steel’s managed to comeback in the game with a great 5 ball comeback. The team scored 11 runs in their super over innings.
Sunil Narine was again a superstar for the team as while defending 12 runs in the super over he managed to bowl a maiden-wicket over. This was an outstanding effort to bring in the second win for the team. Barnwell for his batting
won the man
of the match award.
