England registers their 1st win in World Cup 2015 - The 14th match of the World Cup 2015 saw England and Scotland fight it out against each other in New Zealand. This was one of the most crucial match for England as it was a must win for them in order to make it to the top 8 else a loss here would have meant do or die situation in every single match. On the other Scotland in this tournament are making their comeback after a long time and hence were looking to impress with their skills. England in their previous two encounters in the tournament had lost both the matches while Scotland too lost 1 before coming to this game. After winning the toss Scotland decided to bat first.
Batting first England openers provided their team a good start. Moeen Ali and Ian Bell together scored 172 runs for the 1st wicket in just 30 overs. The very 1st ball of the next over saw the wicket of Bell who was batting at 54 runs. Soon Ali to follow him back to the pavilion after scoring 128 runs. Scottish bowlers came in hard and succeeded in taking 2 quick wickets as England were restricted to 203/4 in 27th over. Later Eoin Morgan played a knock of 46 runs which gave some support to the falling team and they finished off with 303 runs on board in 50 overs. Josh Davey was the best bowler for Scotland as he took 4 wickets in the match.
A score of 303 was a tough one for Scotland and the start made it look even worse when the team lost 3 wickets in 12 overs. Top 3 batsmen lost their wickets in a score of single digit. Opener Kyle Coetzer scored 71 run while two other batsmen were able to cross the 20 runs marks in the innings. Preston Mommsen and Matthew Cross scored 26 and 23 respectively. All the other players in the team failed and hence the team was bowled out at a score of 184 only. With this England won their 1st match to keep some hopes alive for the rest of the tournament. Moeen Ali took 2 wickets while bowling and hence was named as the man of the match for his all-round performance.
