The seventh match in
IPL 2008 was held on 22nd of April. The game was hosted at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Uppal in Hyderabad. It was contested in between Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils team. The DC team won the toss and decided to bat first.
The opening batsmen for Deccan Chargers were Adam Gilchrist and Venugopal Rao. They started with a sixer and it seemed that the innings would have good score. But a good ball from Mohammad Asif took a clean bold of Adam Gilchrist. VVS Laxman came in but lasted only to face 6 balls and contributed 2 runs. The rest of the team did not fare well apart from Rohit Sharma, who contributed 66 runs to the total score of 142 with the fall of 8 wickets to the bowlers of Delhi Daredevils. Mohammad Asif, Farveez Maharook and Rajat Bhatia bagged two wickets for each of them.
Gautam Gambhir and Virendra Sehwag opened up the batting line for DD team. Gambhir did not stay long and contributed 12 runs in 9 balls. Then Shikhar Dhawan and Sehwag gave a thunderous batting and with thirteen fours and six sixes, the Delhi Devils won the match in 13 overs. Sanjay Bangar gave the highest economy rate of 15.
Ultimately, Virendra Sehwag was declared the
Man of the Match and DD team took the
lead by 2 more points.
